Definitely OT: Clean & sober rock groups

I had this conversation with a friend of mine about how drugs and booze have fueled up rock and roll artists for decades. As a result we were trying to make a list of bands that apparently have stayed away from this stuff and still were (are) able to create great music. Not many of them, I agree. So far the list consists of:

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band
Rush

we're not sure about U2 (I think their bas player had some issue with drugs) and Dire Straits.

Could you help with expanding the list?

The most clean and sober and the longest running (and one of the greatest):

Ted Nugent is a big con artist. Not sober by far.

Saw an interview with Tommy Shaw from Styx. The band has been clean and sober for many years. No drinking at all.

The Moody Blues.

Aerosmith, for the most part, after they almost OD'd in the early 80's.

I wouldn't call Bruce Springsteen & E Street Band "sober". Bruce likes his whisky and beer (mostly after show) and, according to the most recent issue of Rolling Stone, the Big Man had a pre-show ritual of "weed and tequila" in recent years.. Federici had some issues with drinking (and coke?) when he was alive and I do believe Miami Steve likes to party.

I've never heard of Nugent's sobriety being disproven.

On the other hand, I remember hearing Nugent claim that he's fired band members he thought were less than sober.

The Moody Blues.

The Moody Blues were huge acid heads and their dealer was Spanish Tony. Check out the song Legend Of A Mind for starters.

If the drugs don't work - go back to the dealer and get your money back! >grinning smiley<

Elvis Presley didn't drink....and hey....they were only sleeping pills.

Naming groups that are sober now, yet were on all kinds of sh*t during their creative peaks doesn't really count...

Not a group, but here's an artist who's always been teetotal, & was drug-free during his creative peak (he discovered dope via the hippies in the late 60s)...

Adam Clayton of U2 was busted for pot.
Danny Federici of the E Street Band liked a toke as well, although that wasnt widely publicised during his lifetime.

pot is a drug? i have a hard time envisioning a situation where someone offers a rock star a toke and they say "no man, i'm off the stuff".

What is sober BTW ?
No cigarettes,no alcohol ,no drugs ?

And yes,pot is a drug if you must know .A cool one but still an addicted/ing stuff.

But IMO, concerning Rock bands,it has to do with the money.
With money you can buy anything .

It's a big act. It's his shtick. He played a local fair here 2 years ago. My brother worked security. He told me it was like 1969 in his trailer. He was totally out of hand.
