Rolling Stones Stuttgart 1970 TV report

German regional TV station SWR3 today broadcast a feature about the history of the Killesberg area at Stuttgart. Part of it was a report about the Rolling Stones concert on September 20, 1970 with scenes of the arrival at the airport (Keith, Mick Taylor, and Charlie Watts), and black-and-white, wide-angle footage of Jumpin' jack flash in mediocre sound quality (recorded by the TV camera).

There was a very critical contemporary comment about the Stones' luxury lifestyle and the very high ticket prices (21 Deutsche Mark which is about 10 Euros).

Six years later the Stones returned to Stuttgart and performed at the Neckarstadion (June 19, 1976). I clearly remember a TV report with 'Honky tonk women' footage, this time probably in color.

Danke! Great info!
Is this on swr3's website? (I could not find it there.)
Alternatively, did you record it?

I don't think it's on their website because it was quite a long feature where the Rolling Stones movie was just a small part of it. I only saw it by accident and did not record it.
But it is very interesting that the regional German TV stations have reports about Rollings Stones concerts from the 1960s and 1970s in their archives. If someone was in the TV/movie business it would be worthwhile to collect those newsreels and make a documentary. I am absolutely sure that SWR3 also featured a report about the Stones concert at Mannheim in 1973.
But archives of the NDR (Hamburg!) and BR (Munich!) should also be checked, as well as the ZDF archives.

Anyone in the business here with access to the archives?

I must add that the report about the Rolling Stones only lasted for four or five minutes and that it was only a small part of the feature.

No reply from SWR3.
Anyone have this on their Tivo--or can contact SWR3 in German?

wow!

For the sake of those of us who have very short attention spans, what part of this video made you go "wow!"? Seriously, just asking, so I can skip the non-wow parts, which upon first glance, are easy to spot.

footage like this & 1969 stuff is tremendously exciting....the band had such power back then.
you talk about archives, and I talk about this era..not 1989 to the present day!

Nice footage from 1970 and 1976. I doubt there's much more in the Stuttgart TV vaults, since the clips both show the opening track, which is what the reporters was allowed to film.
I had to turn it off when seeing those guys trying to be Mick and Keith, good grief - that's even worse than seeing Mick and Keith trying to be....Mick and Keith.

The footage quality from 1970 and 1976 was amazing, though.

There's footage also from Berlin, with JJF complete and HTW incomplete. Pro-shot, B&W. Further, there's pro-shot footage from Paris and Amsterdam available, the latter in colour but without sound.

Re the 1973 Tour of Europe I actaully was in touch with a TV filmmaker from Germany who had compiled some rock documentaries. I proposed that he should look for all the available TV material about the Tour of Europe 1973 in the archives of the European TV stations and make a documentary about the tour. (Remember: next year will be the 40th anniversary!).

However, he told me that German TV stations are generally not very much interested in such ducumentaries and therefore it would be too expensive to buy the braodcasting rights for the different newsreels and concert clips which were broadcast about the tour. so it is all about money...

I have no idea what such a documentary might costin total.
