Maybe we should believe he is trying to save the world like Bono. Let's start a new hate bandwagon, yeah! Hurry up you don't want to be left behind.

The real shocker is that Lydon said something nice about anyone, let alone Mick Jagger

To be honest, if the punks had not kicked the Stones in the ass - the picture would be changed completely.

This is the type of story I love, where there is a bit of discretion in performing civic duties, giving to charities, helping your fellow man, etc.

I appreciate more these acts when they are done to help others, rather than self promote.

I think of Madonna running to Africa to adopt a child...so self serving/media attention grabbing. I think Bono is better than that, but he's gotten more than his fair share of press as well.

Somehow someone like Bill Gates, who steps completely aside from his company to put all his efforts into fundraising, donating what, $38 Billion of his own money, and then convincing other 1%ers like Warren Buffett to follow suit.

I like that. Microsoft still annoys me but not Bill Gates...or MJ.

Interview with MJ - amongst it helping UK olmpic gym team, but doesn't want to talk about what else he does in regards to charity and doesn't want to talk about his family. Very nice interview.

Something you will never hear of is a lawyer working for free though...

Lydon talks about this during this interview (from 1:53).

Nonsense, there are pro bono programs all over the United States where attorneys work for free or at a significantly reduced rate. Many, if not most, major firms in the States encourage their young associates to do pro bono work.

<<where attorneys work for free or at a significantly reduced rate.>>

Isn't that a contradiction? If there's a "significantly reduced rate" then there is still a rate. If it's "work for free" then there is no rate because it's for free. Which is it?

Not a contradiction at all. In some pro bono cases, the attorney works without compensation. In others, they're paid at way below their regular billing rate. There are also clinics where law students, supervised by full-time attorneys, represent indigent clients free of charge in misdemeanor criminal matters and landlord-tenant cases.

Isn't that an equivalent to the drug dealer who sometimes gives you a sample for free in order to cash in later?

Not at all. Pro bono attorneys generally take care of a single matter without creating an ongoing attorney-client relationship. For example, the pro bono attorney (or law student) represents the client in a landlord-tenant matter (e.g., to keep the client in his apartment when the landlord tried to evict him for nonpayment of rent), following which there's no relationship.

Yeah..that's what stonehearted was saying; that's a contradiction.

Yeah..that's what stonehearted was saying; that's a contradiction.

but maybe not...not if they're being paid at 100% below their billing rate.
