I don't see a thread about Gene Clark so I'm going to start one because recently I've become very, very interested in him.
Among many virtues, the Byrds started with three of popular music's best voices - Jim McGuinn, Gene Clark and David Crosby - and one of popular music's best writers - Gene Clark. Gene Clark's post-Byrds recordings didn't gain the same commercial success as his work with the Byrds but he continued to develop as a songwriter and his voice remained beautiful. In short, he was bloody brilliant.

The usual verdict seems to be that he should have achieved the same recognition as Neil Young. Unfortunately, while he was alive, he didn't. Fortunately, even if it's too late for him to know it, his songs are gaining the sort of audience they deserve.

Great songwriter. I much prefer the Byrds doing Gene Clark originals over the Byrds doing Dylan covers.

His Roadmaster album - originally released in Holland - may well be his best. I like it better than No Other which is oft cited as his masterpiece. It's got a great easy country fell that gave The Eagles a run for their money and also has She's The Kind Of Girl with all 5 Byrds reunited on it.

Clark was good, but my favourite Byrds era was the Clarence White/Gene Parsons era.

Eight Miles High is credited to Clark-McGuinn-Crosby. The Byrds songs he wrote all by his self include I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better, She Don't Care About Time, and (the best one) The World Turns All Around Her.

Yeah, Eight Miles High is mostly by Gene Clark.

Clark-Hillman toured 1979 and I watched them then...mostly Byrds-hits as I remember..they left Dylans songs out...
