Sticky Fingers is now out in Japan in SHM-SACD format.

This release has nothing to do with the Universal 2009 remasters .

This is a new DSD flat transfer from analogue master tapes done by Mick McKenna and Richard Whittaker.

I haven't listened to it yet but it looks like the people who have, quite enjoy this release :

This SACD seems to be beyond the quality of analog record.
(note : my vinyl disc is US version grinning smiley )
I've been listening again and again.
I'm so glad that I could meet this disc before I lose my hearing.

Whole disc is overflowing with a sense of natural depth thanks to a flat transfer mastering.

Here are some impressions I noticed.

Ian's piano has dulcet tone on Brown Sugar and Dead Flowers.
Strings on Moonlight Mile is overwhelmingly heavy.
The clear sound of acoustic guitar on Brown Sugar is particularly notable. 12 strings on Wild Horses is the same.
Keith's back vocal especially on Brown Sugar is definitely out in front.
Fuzz guitar sound on Can't You Hear Me Knocking is unexpectedly beautiful.
I noticed some fingering noise on You Gotta Move for the first time.
Like Jimmy Miller pointed out, it's very comfortable even if I am turning the decibel level up.
And, as this is not multi channel sacd, it will be easy listening for everyone.

So many releases ! Why not a new mastering in 2009 instead of several ones in 2 years ??!
Is this new one better than my Mfsl vinyl ? I wonder.

VINYL is the thing.

I bought recently on E-Bay a sealed copy of Sticky Fingers remastered and pressed by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, pressed in Super Vinyl (that was produced by JVC in Japan); and I tell you dear friends, this is the absolute Rolling Stones sound you will ever find!

Regards.

So are you talking about the MSFL made in USA? Or is there another one made in Japan?

Nothing can beats the MFSL LP I received today. On an excellent turntable, the band is in your living room !!

I have a couple of copies of this, but my turntable is crap so I haven't even played...need to get a new turntable...would hate to end up with vinyl shavings at the end of the premiere listen!

I have updated my Linn Lp12 with a Cirkus. Sounds brilliant. I bought the 1984 Mfsl complete box set too. Difficult to match it even with an excellent digital source. Those sacd are single layer and cannot be extracted.

I've been listening It's only Rock'n Roll, Love You Live and Sticky Fingers on SACD.
Another miracle occurred.
I'm happy and glad to be here now.smileys with beer

How about other albums? Only these were released on SACD? By the way I guess they have only SACD layer? Wish they could be listened on normal CD player...

Tatto You and Dirty Work are going to be released in July.
Sorry, you can't listen them on normal player because they don't have hybrid layer.
For this reason, they got high quality of sound.

However, most of average cd playres are now SACD compatible. (at least in Japan)
SACD disk is playable on even cheap players.
What's more, as these Stones SACDs are not 5.1ch surround format, you only hook up two speakers.

Thanks Toru for the additional information.
SACD sound is excellent but you can't copy them on your HD or your mp3 player or ven play them in the car.
I had a couple of SACD released by Abkco in 2002. At least those had a double layer. So you could still play the CD layer...

AMEN!

I have Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab´s (MFSL) remastered Box of the ABKCO era, and Sticky Fingers and Some Girls.

I bought all of them in E-Bay earlier this year, and I can tell you that it is the most exciting Rolling Stone´s sound existing.

I have also the 1971-1989 era in common Lp´s and all the collection in SACD (2002) and Virgin and Universal reissues.

Vinyl beats them all.

Regards.

True...........but if you stored your turn table in the basement SADC is the greatest replacement

Nicos,

you´re right of course.

But next saturday go down to the basement and take you turntable to a specialist and get it working again.
Clean the LP´s ad post your thoughts here next week.
:-)

Kind regards!

The most important benefit is
I never feel exhausted no matter how many times I listened.
Gentle on the ear.
That's the main difference between SACD(not hybrid one) and the past CDs.
Repeating again and again, eight hours had flown by without knowing it.
I guess this CD is hiding some chemical ingredients in it.winking smiley
Beware of addiction!

Anyway, I'm very happy to find out something new everytime I listen.
p.s.
Tattoo You will come out on July 20.

Someone posted an audio sample of Sticky Finger SACD on Steve Hoffmann forums and even if it's not the same as the original SACD quality I must say it still sounds excellent.

Honestly, I believe it's all fetish. OK, I wasn't happy with the CBS CDs, but the Virgin remasters sounded more than alright for me. After that, I mean ... really. Do you guys really get your rocks off listening closely if Keith's backing vocals are a bit more upfront on the SACD or if the strings on Moonlight Mile sound different? It's only Rock'n'Roll, and too much analyzing, well, what did I say ... fetish. Speaking about fetish, there's even anal in analyzing, so I guess I'm not too far off the mark.

Well the fact is until now there was no good digital version of this album anyway. That's why I'm wondering if this SACD might be the one (or not). From what I read it's a flat transfer from the master tapes. When listening to the audio sample I was talking about one can hear a very clear sound. Now why they are selling this at such a price and on SACD only, I don't know. Stones should be available for everyone...

His issue seems to be about the flat transfer and, following him, a missed opportunity to do do some corrections here and there...

I can tell you this release is fantastic.

It has nothing to do with the ability of hearing new details.
You just feel the record in a brand new way !
