OT: Recommended Aerosmith?

I only know their big hits and some of the polished, MTV-generation music of theirs.

What are the recommended albums?

I've always thought that 'Toys in the Attic' and 'Rocks' were as good a back to back release of any band. I listened to them when they came out and still do today.

The first four albums, that's all you really need...okay, throw in Pump from the reincarnation.

Everything up to "Night in the Ruts"

I agree everything up to Night in the Ruts. Live Bootleg is a great raunchy excess drug romp. Kind of like Love you Live.

Their first 3 and Rocks.

Rocks is the best album in my opinion.... Toys In The attic is great as well. Pump and Get A Grip are the best of their MTV period.

Agree, but Get a Grip suffers from poor production.

Everything up until and including night in the ruts. Maybe pump too

For me it is:

1. Rocks
2. Get Your Wings
3. Toys in the Attic
4. Draw the Line
5. Live! Bootleg
6. Aerosmith

Then the extras from the Pandora's Box set followed by Night in the Ruts and Get a Grip.

First 4, no more.

Re: OT: Recommended Aerosmith?

* " Seasons of Wither " ( Be careful. There is an edited version of this out there. The regular version is best. )

* " Kings and Queens "

* " No More , No More "

As far as tracks go, those are some of the best. They are from the earlier years. They actually have quite a few good songs.

"Lightning Strikes" , "Chip Away at the Stone" , "Train Kept a'Rolling" cover version , and "Draw the Line" are some other noteworthy cuts but the first 3 that I mentioned are the best.

What are the recommended albums?

I wouldn't recommend albums but I'd suggest you get the bunch of radio shows from the 1978 US tour. They're amazing!

This one for example :

Title: King's Chronicle
Date: March 23, 1978
Venue: The Aragon Ballroom, Chicago, IL, USA
Label: Bondage Music

Disc 1
01.Rats In The Cellar
02.I Wanna Know Why
03.Big Ten Inch Record
04.Walk This Way
05.Sight For Sore Eyes
06.Seasons Of Wither
07.Sweet Emotion
08.Dream On
09.Chip Away The Stone
10.Get The Lead Out
11.Get It Up
12.Draw The Line
13.No More No More
14.Same Old Song And Dance
15.Toys In The Attic
16.Milk Cow Blues
17.Train Kept A Rollin'

I recommend these albums, in this order:

Get Your Wings
Toys in the Attic
Make It
Honkin' On Bobo
Live! Bootleg
Rocks

Here's a little taste from the debut album "Make It" (or in some markets called just "Aerosmith" ):

...plus its predecessor, Permanent Vacation ! That's where the reincarnation started... (and it's a fun album)

The reincarnation started with this album; Done With Mirrors.

I love love love Permanent Vacation. Not one weak song.
And Live Bootleg. Great one with all the "warhorses" cool smiley.

No week songs.......besides Angel, Permanent Vacation, Magic Touch, The Movie, Girl Keeps coming apart......etc......

Technically, it starts with Done With Mirrors.... Back to the first 4, keep it simple.

Ok, The Movie ain´t a highlight, still it´s a strong record, methinks.

Re: OT: Recommended Aerosmith?

I'll have to agree with Permanent Vacation. Everything on it is not my kind of music, but it is a strong album indeed - even Magic Touch smiling smiley

Hangman Jury (thank you, Leadbelly!) is perhaps the best thing they ever did thumbs up

I'm Down is a great Beatles cover.

I'll endorse Toys and Rocks. Post reformation Permanent Vacation and Pump are excellent. And Bobo and Live.

There also some excellent career spanning compilations but this is an excellent one just covering the early years

I think "Get A Grip" is the best from the Geffen era.

First 4, no more.

I'd add Draw The Line (sounded really good full blast in my car when I was 19), but nothing after that. By Night In The Ruts it was all over; a band out of gas and out of ideas.

Thanks for all the answers. Appreciated.

I assume I should check out these:

Aerosmith
Get Your Wings
Toys In The Attic
Rocks
Draw The Line
Night In The Ruts
Permanent Vacation
Pump
Get A Grip

I relent on Permanent Vacation but am firm on nothing afterward; PV made them the MTV house band and it was downhill from there.
