Just one of many examples:

Old article from 2006 .... and paywalled.

Sorry, I am not a subscriber to that outlet and it wasn't paywalled for me.

Tax haven only for Big companies and of course The Rolling Stones, not for us citizen of the Netherlands. (Testify to for you to learn something, Holland is NOT a country spinning smiley sticking its tongue out, it’s just a small part of the Netherlands grinning smiley)

I somehow missed this thread: interesting topic.

I am no tax expert, and I don't have a clue of how the Stones business is organised now. But the articles that are quoted seem to be deliberately sensationalist, as they focus on the taxes that the Dutch corporations controlled by the Stones pay.

But this is only one side of the story.

The money somehow has to transit these corporations to the pockets of the individual Stones (dividends, salaries?), and these passages are surely taxed in Holland. And may also be taxed wherever the individual Stones file their tax returns.

Furthermore, the income generated in the various countries around the world may be taxed there as well before it even gets to the Dutch corporations.

For example, last time I checked, income generated in Italy by non resident artists - individuals or corporations - is subject to a withholding tax in Italy.

So the claim that the stones pay no taxes seems quite far fetched.

The Stones are not guilty of tax evasion. Tax avoidance, which is legal and any smart person would take full advantage of any and all laws, would apply to the Stones organization. And why not?

Tax evasion? No. Tax avoidance? Yep.

Honoré de Balzac once wrote : "behind every great fortune there is a great crime".
He would have loved the Stones...

it's not like Balzac forcibly would have approved.
it's more that he was fairly obsessed with money.
he probably would have been envious though of the riches amassed by the Stones
in his letters to his big love (some Ukrainian aristocrat) he was also often writing about how much he would earn from a certain manuscript
