When did he become Mick? I read that the Mike moniker was with him till at least 1962!

The few times Mick is called Michael is when theres a Sir in front of his name..and I would imagine the Queen would always call him Michael.

Most things I've read seem to agree that he was always Mike at school and started "being Mick" around the time he met Keith again on Dartford Station. Some writers attribute this to Keith's influence and others think the effect of attending the London School of Economics (famously left-wing in those days) might have made him decide that Mick was more fashionably working-class. My money is on the LSE, but the jury is out on this one.

Interesting one this. I was born Michael, grew up being called Mick while at school in the 60s and 70s because Mick J had popularised the name but am now known as plain Mike to my friends - and Silver Dagger to you lot.

From an ESQUIRE piece by Jay McInerney, when black producer Nile Rodgers was producing SHE'S THE BOSS tracks:

JAGGER: "How come black people call me Nick?"

RODGERS: "My man, Nick Jaggers. Hey, Nick! I'd like you to meet my close personal friend, Mr. Nick Jaggers!"

JAGGER, "Yeah, happens all the time."

I can tell say on his documents the name is Michael P. Jagger. I used to work for a major credit card company and saw his application.

As for being called Mick, I once read he was always Michael of Mike offstage to his friends but sometime in 1969 he became Mick Jagger all the time.

Or calling Robert Plant - Bobby.

Or the last time Bill Wyman was called William Perks.

Or has Charlie Watts been called Charles.

I remember reading a while back on one of the Fan Forums that someone went through his garbage can in NY and found a credit card receipt which was signed Michael Jagger.

I love the name Michael.

I have read that Mick hates being called Micky with a red-hot passion.
