Anybody who grew up during the sixties would probably remember the song "Dirty Water" a garage rock classic.

RIP Dick, too soon gone.

Even if you didn't grow up during the sixties, you might still have seen them on the U.S. TV show, The Munsters.

"The Standells toured with The Stones in the sixties"

That's right. They opened for the Stones at the Hollywood Bowl in '66, along with Buffalo Springfield and The McCoys.

Too many of these notices lately . . . R.I.P.

So I spent this morning in a garage going through the remnants of a great garage band legend - Dick Dodd of the Standells - who died last week. Reminded me of how solid this cover was. a former band mate of Dick's told me how, when they toured with the Stones in '66, how tight Dick became with Brian on all the plane trips. Just loved him.

some friends/bandmates organizing his stuff - a benefit show happening soon

Dick Dodd was also the original drummer for the early 1960s Los Angeles-based surf rock outfit The Bel-Airs....

....whose 1961 instrumental Mr. Moto was an influence on nineties band Sublime's song Seed (in the solo, starting at 1:02).
