OT: McCartney plays free New York gig on back of truck

Hmmm - now where did I see that done before?

Here's the news report from New York Daily News

Paul McCartney continued his guerilla concert dates Thursday, turning up to play a terse set before a surprised lunch time crowd in Times Square.

The four song showcase arrived just one day after the ex-Beatle played a full 13 song set - and conducted a "master class" Q&A session- with students gathered in the auditorium of the Frank Sinatra High School in Astoria, Queens.

McCartney has been performing these hit-and-run shows as a p.r. move to push his first album of original songs in 6 years - aptly titled "New" - out Tuesday.

For Thursday's event, the icon played on a stage fitted into a tractor tailor that pulled up at 46th Street and Broadway, by the TXS Booth.

The affable star appeared with his usual four man band, who offered songs from the new disc, including the punky hard "Save Us" and the audience sing-along "Everybody Out There." No Beatles or Wings songs were performed.

"You're a lovely audience," McCartney said before ending his 15 minute show. "Let's do this the same time tomorrow - just kidding.

I suppose he'll now say he gave the idea to The Stones...

Macca's on fire! The CD is good and it's great to see him pushin' it big time. Let's see what he has up his sleeve for Europe...

Macca certainly does the right PR things to please his fans and the general public.
With The Stones there is always the anticipation of something really good and exciting after a vague sentence or two on RS.com or twitter.
Usually turns out to be a damp squib like a De-Luxe Super new edition of an age old album. eye rolling smiley

McCartney seems to have fun doing his PR stuff. I don't think that the Stones are enjoying it in the same way. Which is fine.

BTW: After the short 4 song set, he walked down 5th avenue back to his hotel. I saw some pictures. I think they were in the daily mail.

Macartney seems the real deal to me. Still performs well and seems to actually appreciate his fans as showen by the reasonable ticket prices compared to "other big name" acts.

Agree with Rob51.

McCartney still loves to perform and good for him.

Yes, he loves what he does and he is proud of his legacy and career.

Also, the most important point, the element that inspires him to do it with such joy and spirit: Paul McCartney, in truth, is as big of a Beatles fan as anyone.

Well... let's hold our horses here. I love Paul and I wouldn't ever say that. Yeah, compared to our Stones he charges fairly, but so does everyone. Compared to other big name acts he charges the same or more. He's in the top 3 I've ever paid for a performer. Fair enough, he's a Beatle. BUT, I wouldn't call that reasonable. If it were reasonable it would be like $100 to $120, which none of his top prices are. Most of his tickets I believe are about $175, and thats not something I'd call reasonable. Thats what I'd call "high, but passes as acceptable these days." Reasonable is when you are lower than the max, and he charges the max the same as other rock giants.

How about down in a subway car, going from stop to stop?
or probably better/easier down in one of the huge stations.
