What are the most raw, visceral or funkiest/heaviest songs from Marvin Gaye, and Sam Cooke? (not polished, slick songs, but something with some dirt and grit)... thanxx

"T" Plays It Cool by Gaye is pretty funky, at least.

Ofcourse Sam Cookes Live at the Harlem Square club.
Legendary stuff and probably the greatest live set anybody ever did.

A lot of Marvin Gayes singles right up until 'Grapevine'; Ain't that peculiar is a personal favorite.

O/T but what the heck.... Both are known for being smooth rather than raw but for Marvin try Can I Get A Witness, Pride And Joy, Ain't That Peculiar, That's The Way Love Is.

For Sam Cooke try the Night Beat album, slow but gritty.
