I was about ten years old growing up in Memphis when Elvis' popularity was at a peak and he was recording his greatest hits such as Don't Be Cruel, Jailhouse Rock, and Hound Dog. Many seemed to have heard of his back up singers, the Jordanaires, but no one ever spoke of Scotty Moore, his long time guitarist from 1954 to the late sixties. As a child and teenager, I never heard the name Scotty Moore.

I realize it is hard to measure Most Listened To in objective terms, but I would include all sources of listening possibilities including vinyl records, movies, CD's, cassette tapes, DVD's, ipod music, AM and FM radio, satellite radio, TV, live concerts, and computer sources such as You Tube. You must realize that Elvis' popularity rose greatly after his death and that millions of people all over the world and over several decades have heard Scotty play. Listen to his playing on A Big Hunk of Love. I have never heard such crisp and clean guitar licks. Reminds me of a younger Keith.

It is just quite possible that Scotty Moore is the most listened to guitarist in the world. It is really amazing that few people have heard his name.

I would guess Lennon/ Harrison.

maybe joe walsh is on the list because of the james gang and solo stuff but walsh is only on 2 eagles albums released in the 70's. glenn frey, don felder and bernie leadon all play guitar on eagles 70's recordings

I do remember Scotty's "Great guitar playing" from my Elvis albums, here's a nice article about Scotty;
In December of 1996 during the recording of the "All The King's Men", Scotty and D.J. went to Dublin to record the last track "Unsung Heroes" with Ron Wood, Jeff Beck and Ian Jennings.

What about the 60's session guitarists, like Big Jim Sullivan? These guys would do several sessions a day, any one of which could produce hits that are still listened to today.

Most listened to guitarist? Between playing on so many hit records in the mid-late 60s and his own band's saturation of the rock radio airwaves since 1969, my guess would be Jimmy Page.

It's unknown session musicians like the guitarist in the John Scott Trotter Orchestra, playing on thousands of songs that are most listened to.
