Doom and Gloom: one of their greatest in decades
Posted by: 1962 ()

I still don't get tired listen to Doom and Gloom.

Surprisingly aged very well.

Great classic Rolling Stones rocker one of their best in decades IMO.

My teenage children and their friends are big fan of DG!

(To tell the truth I also like very much One More Shot)

Well done Stones.

Jeez, I could not think more that it is just a throwaway. Since it has come out, I have not understood the overwhelming positive output of comments like "they sound better than ever". I think its just as good as most of their stuff post-Tattoo You - its fine, but nothing at all special to their catalogue.

If you like Doom N Gloom you'll love Where The Boys Go.

Best Mick-vocals in decades, imo.

It's great!

The Stones doing Sham 69.

Doom and Gloom is great too, I think Mick really focused on getting the vocal right like the old days.

There were snippets of Doom n Gloom in the Nile Exploration episode of Top Gear which was aired in the Netherlands yesterday.

It made me realize what a strong and recognizable riff it is,

I love the way they played it last year.

Mick seemed to enjoy singing and playing that great guitar riff.

I think he's proud of DG.

What amazes me is that my 17 year old daughter use DG for ringtone since the release and there was no temptation to change it because it's @#$%&' great.
Never boring.

That's the one that pulled my son in too, 1962. He had heard me go on about them and it was, blah blah Mom's talking about the Stones blah blah, but D&G really impressed him. He's coming with me to one of the Philly shows, so I gave him a list of Stones CD's to listen to and now he's hooked. smiling smiley

yeah, absolutely agree. great riff, great vocal, great single.

I think Where the Boys Go is a kool, raw, kinda Stones false punk stuff, fills the same role as Lies in Some Girls. But not so similar to D&G.

I think it is a bit too much like the Tattoo You sound, and Mick with it has simply copied a bit of Keith's guitar work. Nothing wrong with that, he's just trying to drum up business for upcoming 50th/tour.

I actually prefer the other 'new' song (I cannot think of the title but I like the sound on that one).

Frackin' wonderful. That and Love Is Strong are the best singles since Start Me Up for me.

Its a great track, especially lyrically. The music is good, but the words are great.

The last thing I want them to do is try and sound like 'the old days'. That is great for gussied up bonus tracks from Exile and Some Girls, but Doom and Gloom has a new sound. If you took Mick's great vocals and lyrics out of it I doubt you'd recognize it as a Stones song. The flip side sucks.

doom and gloom is a lot better than many expected.

would be up there with the best if it had come out in the early 70,s.

hopefully more to come.
