For their longest running fan club in the world they should do a private show at no cost period. On the backside of a tour after they have raked in millions. Or in an off year a memorable gig.

Or at the very least, a PPV gig with free backstage party passes to our valiant members. I would if I were one of them without thinking twice. It's called gratitude.

>>PS. I did some calculations. I have a nice club here in Norway. It takes 1000 people. And they cost 10 mill usd. So that makes 10,000 dollar. I just need 999 friends to join in, and with some help I am sure we can get a special price of 5,000 so it's possible, absolutely!

I'm in. But only if Mick Taylor is part of the deal.

The Rolling Stones may have done Superbowl and a rich man's birthday party in Las Vegas, but a royal wedding in Britain? Leave that to Macca and Elton John!

When did they do the"rich man´s" birthday party?

First they did the PEPSI party in a tent in Hawaii Kona Island. With Maggie Thatcher in the tent crowd. Quite weired concept because the older Pepsi executives left the show before it was finished due to bed time. On the last tour they did the DEUTCHE BANK private party in Barcelona. Very secret but still great money for them to pay off some 7 million dollars touring money, nice way of getting a sponsor.

The rich guy show was quite spectacular, a one off at the Joint Las Vegas. read all about it here:

$7 MILLION BIRTHDAY BASH
by the New York Post, Nov 13, 2002

TEXAS billionaire David Bonderman is throwing himself one hell of a 60th-birthday party. The buyout king - a founding partner of the Texas Pacific Group, a private equity firm - has booked dozens of rooms at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for this weekend and hired the Rolling Stones to entertain his guests. Bonderman is said to be spending $7 million on the weekend. Mick Jagger and his bandmates will join up with John Mellencamp on Saturday to play at the Hard Rock's concert venue, the Joint, after a private dinner hosted by funnyman Robin Williams. Bonderman is having a temporary staircase built in the Joint, so guests won't have to leave the hall - and mingle with uninvited casino patrons - to get from the main room to the VIP balcony. Reps for Jagger, Williams and Mellencamp had "heard nothing about this."

Texas Pacific Group
Texas Pacific Group is based in Fort Worth, Texas and manages US$7 billion. It buys money losing firms and improves their performance, often selling them years later for a profit. This was done with Continental Airlines, which TPG bought in 1993 and then sold in 1998. It is led by Harvard law graduate David Bonderman, who is also chairman of European air carrier Ryanair. The firm has large stakes in many familiar names, including Del Monte fruits and vegetables, Punch Taverns, Ducati motorcycles, and J. Crew clothing. It is currently in the process of buying Burger King from Diageo of the U.K.

....

So it is time to save up, they do this one time per tour, the price for this show is going up every time, now closer to 10 million dollars, and if the schedule and your event and venue and everything else fit into what they like, they will do a show for you, and you only. With your selected friends!

PS. I did some calculations. I have a nice club here in Norway. It takes 1000 people. And they cost 10 mill usd. So that makes 10,000 dollar. I just need 999 friends to join in, and with some help I am sure we can get a special price of 5,000 so it's possible, absolutely! But is it worth it?[/quot

Thanks BV! Count me in, i could easily pay 5000$ for a private show with 1000 people.

Can't see no difference in playing to a rich man's wedding or birthday and playing to the Royals. Both are a bit populistic - and so f****** what ?

We all know they are doing it for the publicity and for the money. There is nothing wrong with that. Call them sell-outs or something worse, they don't care, and they have nothing to prove anymore. Their legacy isn't going to be damaged for that reason anyway.

The Stones, Macca or Elton are all under one hat here.

the royal family could have made the buzz on internet if they had invited the Stones for a musical performance.
there is a huge choice of lovely songs like Bitch, Rip This Joint, Brown Sugar, Honky Tonk Women, Stupid Girl, ...what else ?

No need to sing.

Can't see it happening, to be honest.

Thankfully. Pop music doesn't belong at such an event.

No it doesn't. It is, perhaps, at their funerals. What did Keith say about Elton singing Candle in the Wind at Princess' Di's funeral? Some thing like 'songs for dead blonds and Reg is all show biz.' The todger comment seems small in comparison.

Stones also played for Deutsche Bank earning 5,4 mio USD

Elton has played for the royals in Westminster Abbey in the funeral of Williams mother, so it wouldn't be that strange to have him in the wedding.

Yes, and I believe Sir Elton responded in kind with words to the effect that Mr. Richards was a withered drunken monkey...or something.

Well, if I was 29 years old, rich as Croesus, and going to be king and queen of England one day, I think I'd use my magical powers to get someone a lot more exciting than Macca and Elton to play at my wedding.

They must be a pretty dull couple.

based on an unsubstantiated rumour about a 'possible' appearance?

I seriously doubt there'll be ANY pop/rock stars playing at it

Why not? They are a young couple. Publicity wise, the royals would rather show the public that they are in touch with the common man rather that smugly raising their noses to them.

BTW BV, reopen my thread on this.

In touch with the common man's... taste of music from 40 years ago?

Instead of those 2 i'd imagine they'd rather have Charlotte Church or Adele perform.

Yes and that Keith should have been kicked out of the Stones a long time ago. Guitar skills, and arthritis aside, it is not the Stones without Keith. The man stays!
