OT: The real first band I ever saw live

I always say it was Bebop Deluxe (I love them, magic band).

But they weren't the first, they were second.

They were supported by Doctors of Madness, so were on first.

And this is awesome.

Anyone else got a real first band?

Just like I wrote. You paid flat rate to get into the Steel Pier. Then you could watch a first run movie in the theater. Afterward 'Little' Stevie Wonder came out on the theater stage. He did everything, harmonica, drums. This was around the time of 'Fingertips' and 'Uptight'. The Four Seasons were the headliner and they were still having hit records. We then went outside and watched the Diving Horse leap some forty feet into the ocean. Then we strolled into the ballroom (I was 11), where Duke Ellington and his Orchestra were playing.

Who really stole my virginity? Nobody stole mine. I gave it away as quickly as possible.

The Rolling Stones, 1995. 15 years old.

Sure, The Tragically Hip was the support act, but I remember nothing of that.

I saw some acts before on some local festivals...but The Stones was the first ticket I ever bought.

My lost concert virginity when I was taken along, too young(to appreciate it), to see Black Oak Arkansas open for Humble pie. We had upstairs balconey crappy seats, and I didnt really appreciate or understand what it was all about, but I liked it, a lot.....

My first real concert was several years later when we earned general admission 2nd row center seats for The Allman Brothers Band. It was freeking awesome, looking up at the band so close and have them looking back... and they played so many great long jamming songs... and to basiaclly be able to relive it by listening to the live album. It changed my life, and to think I could have been a golf pro or test car driver.

Long live Southern Rock!

Rolling Stones, July 25, 1966 Hollywood Bowl. A month later, my next concert: The Beatles at Dodger Stadium. Ironically, this morning I purchased 3 tickets for the McCartney show at Safeco Field in Seattle, July 19.

Saw the Joe Perry Project in my High School Gymnasium (Acton, MA, USA) in fall on 1983. I'll never forget being that close to "the real thing" in the same gym where I played basketball.

My second concert was the following spring/summer at The Manning Bowl in Lynn, MA, USA which is the venue where the Stones kicked off their 1966 tour. No Stones that day but I did get to see The Beach Boys & The Stompers! Great show!

Peace,
Mr DJA

Also saw these 2 bands (same tour?) on Long Island. Was that 1973?

I would have thought it was earlier, but I remember getting a poster
from the show and it said "Eat it"... which came out in 1973.... so voila!

Jethro Tull - May 13, 1972 Nassau Coliseum - Uniondale, NY. This was the Thick As A Brick tour. Wild Turkey opened the show.

Actually had tickets for this show and also Led Zeppelin a few weeks later. I thought I was so cool at 15 to be going to these two shows!

This was my 2nd show - [www.ledzeppelin.com]

David Bowie at Bradford St George's Hall 1973 - The Ziggy Stardust TOur. A brilliant venue to which I returned many times over the years, it's Still there today and still has bands although not as high profile. I was aged 12 or 13 and my older brother took me along. It was a real eye opener in many ways, but it gave me the live music bug which still crawls through my aging veins.

Cactus, in 1970, when I was 11. The two guys who had previously been in the Vanilla Fudge were friends with the guy who owned the camp I was staying at that summer, and he let them use the camp to test out some very expensive PA equipment they had just bought. I was so impressed by the way their music literally caused to earth to shake, that I counted their speaker cabinets. There were 48 of them.

Man those are some sweet concerts.

Mine was Steppenwolf at Massey Hall (Toronto)
in 1981. I was 14.

Second was The Who at Exhibition Stadium in 1982.

My first rock show was Mountain at the Felt Forum (now the Theatre at Madison Square Garden), New York, December 31, 1973 (early show). Half the set was taken up by Nantucket Sleighride.

My second was The Who at Madison Square Garden, June 14, 1974. Pete Townshend broke three guitars and handed a fourth off to Keith Moon for demolition. I was 13 at the time. This made quite the impression.

Not my first but the absolute best The Moody Blues, '73, Baton Rouge.
Fleetwood Mac '79 Nassau Coliseum, NY tied that (also saw them in '73 or 4 in New Orleans after the Peter Greene era but that wasn't great.)
