OT: Anyone know about digital pianos/keyboards?

It's my birthday tomorrow (yay for me - big 45!) and I've been thinking for a while about getting portable keyboards to have a bash at learning how to play some honky tonk/boogie woogie style piano at home....

Does anyone have any recommendations of machines I could try out that won't totally destroy my bank account?

I know a little bit about guitar but zero about pianos!

I don't have one, but I am really intrigued with Yamaha's avantgrand hybrid series. They are more expensive than other digital pianos but the feel and the sound comes closest to an acoustic imo.

I can't buy one right now, but it is on my list.

Stones concerts or piano....stones concerts or piano....

Yeah. I almost threw down on one just after Christmas. That's when you get the REALLY good sale prices (I saw one for $50) most do not have as many keys as pianos. The Full piano size keyboard is, obviously, more expensive. The other thing you're paying for is the number of special effects and built in rythm effects. Obviously the more effects options the higher the price. Even so, these keyboards are incredibly affordable. I was going to run it through my PA system. But I'm running out of room and my wife got wind of it and that was that. Maybe next year.

Get one with weighted keys.

Yes, that is very important. Also get one with a full keyboard (88 keys).

We used to have a Williams Encore, which was very affordable and playable.

yeah, you can start off with a cheap one that doesn't have a full set of keys and isn't weighted but if you keep playing, your're gunna really want that stuff so you might as well just pay more in the beginning. better in the long run.

The demo video is below.

I wasn't serious ryanpow. I have an acoustic so I don't really need a digital piano, but I'd really love to have one of those hybrids...

Hi, I played classical piano seven years on a real one, did recitals & the whole bit, but when I got a keyboard for my kids, it was a Yamaha & held up beautifully for years, no complaints. I played it too. Hope this helps.
