best Mick songs about Keef and vice versa - positive and negative

Just had another good listen to Talk Is Cheap

another volatile time in Stones world.

made me think about teh songs both solo and Stones that the Glimmers have written about each other, both good and nasty.

You Dont Move Me has some killer lyrics.

You made the wrong motion
Drank the wrong potion
You lost the feeling
Not so appealing

Why do you think you got no friends
You drove them all around the bend

Oh yeah
You don't move me anymore

Now you wanna throw the dice
You already crapped out twice

Oh yeah, Oh yeah
You just don't move me anymore

One face so seamy
The other don't see me
It's better that you kill the light
You're giving us all a fright

Oh yeah
You don't move me anymore

How you gonna keep your wealth
Can't even defend yourself

Ah yeah
Oh no
You just don't move me anymore

What makes you so greedy
Makes you so seedy
No matter how you flip that dime
On our side is time
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah

It's no longer funny
It's bigger than money

You just don't move me anymore

But How I Wish kinda takes a diff path

How I wish that you were here again
How I wish that you were here again

If I could see you and touch you with my hand
If I could feel you, I know damn well I can't

How I wish that you were here again
How I wish I had you near again

If I could see you, Oh just now and then
If I could feel you, I'd do my time again

Oh Honey, honey, honey, Yeah

If I could kiss you, caress you now and then
Ooh just to thrill you, I'd do life again, Yeah

Oh Honey, honey, honey, Yeah

How I wish that you were here again
Oh Honey, honey, yeah
How I wish you were here again, Oh honey

Mick, in support of Keith, who was getting complaints from neighbors in his NYC apartment building that he was playing his stereo too loud.

Too Far Gone... maybe Mick with a song for Keef

"Too Far Gone"

Let it down let it down
Let it down now
Let it down let it down
Let it down now
Let it down let it down
Let it down now

I always hate nostalgia
Living in the past
No use getting misty eyed
It all screamed by so fast

When life was so much calmer
Severely buttoned up
The future rich in promises
Milk flowing from the cup

I would spend those lazy days
Lying on a ridge
Watching girls in cotton dresses
Diving off the bridge

Is it too far gone
Is it too far gone
Is it too too far gone
Too far gone

This was once the country
Now it's all the town
What was once the tallest spire
Is just building crumbled down

And I'm lving in a factory
That's a million dollar flat
I'm not looking for arcadia
Cause it's never coming back

I would spend my childhood days
Lost in starry dreams
And now watch my children
Just downloading them to screens

Let it down let it down let it down
Let it down let it down let it down

Cause it's too far gone
Too far gone [cont]

Yeah it's too far gone
Yeah it's too too
Too far too far gone

Let it down let it down let it down

I'm lying in a garden
Carpets in the shade
Thinking of the future
And all the love we saved
The world outside is ugly
It's bitter and it's harsh
We each of us protect ourselves
We're hostage to the past

And it's too far gone
It's too far gone
I wonder where did we go wrong
And it's too too far
And it's too too far
Too far gone

You're suggesting that How I Wish is Keith writing about Mick?

Hmmmm.

I always wondered what he had in mind when he sang "You already crapped out twice", STB ? That wasn't such a failure, especially in hindsight...ok that's 1, 2 could either be "Ruthless People" (did Rocky Dijon say recently the massive clip planned by Yeltnikoff had been cancelled) or PC of course. So was "rolling the dice" Mick's tour ?

"Too Far Gone", great song, if it had been on WS or any Stones album, everyone would be ranting about it, unfortunately it landed on Goddess that was needlessly villified by Keith with that silly nickname and that only had a couple clunkers and some bad production.

"All About You" is another one of course, Anita/Mick blend.

I love the Talk is Cheap album. I love How I Wish. I've probably played it 500 times. I have never, EVER thought it was about Mick. I still don't. Now You Don't Move Me, that's another story.

Don't forget Sleep Tonight, which offers the hope of reconciliation.

I always liked Mixed Emotions, btw, because in my mind at least, they were both singing it to each other (though I guess mainly Mick to Keith)

Shoot Off Your Mouth

You say you love me
Why do you always do me down down down?
I hit rock bottom
You gave me up without sound, sound, sound
But now I'm back in town and feeling mighty fit
I'm sick and tired of eating all your chicken shit
So keep on looking for me
Once I was lost but now I'm found, found, found
I was a rising star
You hitched your wagon next to mine, mine, mine
The sun was shining bright
I guess I never read the sign, sign, sign
Right at the moment that you saw my hand first slip
Just like a dirty rat you jumped the sinking ship
So keep on looking for me
Once I was lost but now I'm found, found, found

Find me in the palace
Find me on the street
Find me back in church
Right in my favourite seat
Now you're a notch on my gun
Who are you to shoot off your mouth?

Wild-eyed and crazy
I always threw my cash around, round, round
You put the boot in
Until the bottom fell right out, out, out
I turned around
You smell like Monday morning's fish
I can't get near enough to take a goodbye kiss
So keep on looking for me
Once I was lost but now I'm found, found, found

Find me in the movies
Right on the TV screen
Keep on searching for me
And you will hear me scream
Now you're a notch on my gun
Now you're a notch on my gun
Who are you to shoot off your mouth?
Shoot off your mouth

But now I'm back in town and feeling mighty fit
I'm sick and tired of eating all your chicken shit
So keep on looking for me
Once I was lost but now I'm found, found, found

Find me in the palace
Find me on the street
Find me back in church
Right in my favourite seat
Now you're a notch on my gun
Who are you to shoot off your mouth?
Shoot off your mouth
Shoot off your mouth
Shoot off your
Don't shoot, don't shoot, don't shoot
Don't shoot, don't shoot, don't shoot

It's hard to hear Mixed Emotions without thinking of "Mick's Demotion". I wish it would have never been pointed out to me.

Ahh, I see. I had heard at one point it was Mick's Demotion because he couldn't cut it as a solo artist and had to go back to The Stones. hahaha

Did Keith have Mick in mind when he wrote Gimme Shelter? After hearing what went on on the set of Performance.

STB and PC. Roll the dice is waiting for the album reviews.

"Shine a Light" - Mick about Keith

Re: best Mick songs about Keef and vice versa - positive and negative

I always thought "Kow Tow" from Primitive Cool was a jab at Keith and the Stones from Mick as he embarked on his solo career. Never heard or read anyone state the same observation. Maybe because it's such an obscure song. He even says "the wicked lay stones in my path". Check out the lyrics . What do you think?

Kow Tow lyrics:

And I just don't do things by halves
So come now please don't make me laugh
The wicked lay stones in my path
And friends who are snakes in the grass
I felt the warmth of you in summer days gone by
The waves they rock the boat
You smiled at me and closed your eyes

I won't bow down, I won't kow tow
Won't be seen to, won't be lied to
I won't turn tail, won't be blackmailed by you

And I can see through you like glass
So come now please don't make me laugh

I hear the country church bells ring for you
I see the church choir rise and sing for you
But I'll be leaving soon, I'm off at high noon
I've got a heavy heart, we touch a long past

I won't bow down, I won't kow tow
Won't be seen to, won't be lied to
I won't turn tail, won't be blackmailed
But if you think of me
Think something sweet of me

I look around in rage
There's nothing left
There's nothing saved
Some memories, a photograph
The future looms, so damn the past

I don't want you, I don't need you
I won't bow down, I won't kow tow
I won't turn tail, I won't be blackmailed
Won't be seen to, won't be lied to
Ohh, ooh, ooh

"Infamy", from Keith to Mick

Oh you know you've got it in for me
I knew it right from the start
I'm still learning my lines baby
Since you've rewritten my part

Oh why have you got it in for me
Things they are not what they seem
You were living in a nightmare baby
But I mistook it for a dream
Yeah just for a dream
But I mistook it all for a dream, yeah

You've got it in for me

I know you've got it in for me
You didn't miss a thing
It's you that wrote the song, baby
But me who's got to sing

I knew you had it in for me
Where do you take it from here?
We got along so famously
[till/time/?] you made it clear, yeah

You made it very, very clear
You made it abundantly clear

You've got it in for me
I knew it right from the start
You've already convicted me
Why you're hard on my heart

Ooh you're [right?] on my heart
Oh yes so hard
So hard on my heart (you got it in for me)
Ooh in for me, baby (you got it in for me)
Why, baby, why baby why? (you got it in for me)
All you want to do is wipe the floor with me (you got it in for me)
Come on - why, baby, why? (you got it in for me)
Hummm (you got it in for me)
Right from the start (you got it in for me)
Yes you've got it in for me (you got it in for me)
In for me right from the start (you got it in for me)
I should have seen it coming (you got it in for me)
Fine, fine heart (you got it in for me)
Ooh yeah... (you got it in for me)
