I personally love it. Its not without its flaws, but largely the first 9 songs are great. There is filler, and its too long, but it could be alot worse and I would contend as well that its overall their best since Some Girls or Tattoo You.

I'm pretty sure the Stones themselves called it the Biggest Mistake of their lives.
Didn't they even write a song about that?

It must have been the greatest album they ever recorded, at least from The Stones' point of view. Has to be--because they haven't recorded an album since. They must have thought, How can we top ABB? No point in recording any more albums now...

a BIGGER BANG was the best Stones album since BRIDGEE TO BABYLON which itself was their best since VOODOO LOUNGE was their best since....

There are parts of the album I truly love and also parts I absolutely loathe. Unfortunately, the bad just barely edges out the good.

It has high points and low points.

The good:
Rough Justice
Let me Down Slow
She Saw Me Coming
Laugh I Nearly Died
Rain Fall Down
Back Of My Hand
Driving too Fast
Dangerous Beauty
This Place Is Empty

Ok
Biggest Mistake
Oh No Not You Again

The Bad
Infamy

The Ugly
Streets of Love
Sweet Neocon

I think if we consider the following:

parts of Steel Wheels were good, but Voodoo Lounge was better.

Bridges was excellent, and so too Bigger Bang. Sweet Neocon is awful, and I always maintain Streets of Love to be a Diane Warren pastiche, maybe I'm deluded, in much the same way as Far Away Eyes was a pastiche.

Almost right smiling smiley

Keep:
Rough Justice
Let me Down Slow
She Saw Me Coming
Laugh I Nearly Died
Rain Fall Down
Back Of My Hand
Driving too Fast
Dangerous Beauty
Infamy
Biggest Mistake
Oh No Not You Again

Remove:
Streets of Love
This Place Is Empty
Sweet Neocon

Add:
Under The Radar

Classic 12 track album - Sorted!

I think it's very good. I don't care for Sweet Neo Con or She Saw Me Coming at all.. Others that shouldn't of made the cut: Look what Cat Dragged In & Infamy imo.. Driving too Fast ok generic rocker.. Streets Of Love well what to say its Mick being Mick (It certaintly was much better live).

I really enjoy Rough Justice, Let Me Down Slow, It Won't Take Long, Dangerous Beauty, Biggest Mistake, Back Of My Hand, Laugh I Nearly Died, Oh no Not You Again, This Place is Empty, Under The Radar, //////Rain Fell Down can take or leave depending on mood..

Overall was quite pleased when released and still am... MEZ

It's not a great album, or even a very good album, and I can't see how pretending it is serves any useful purpose.

The sound of a band copying their copycats is best forgotten.

The triumvirate of Voodoo Lounge/Babylon/Bigger Bang do not come near to being as good as Steel Wheels. Bill took his roll and went home and they simply can't find it again.

I judge an album by how often I listen to it. I never listen to VoodooBabylonBang, though Love Is Strong/You Got Me Rocking/Rough Justic aren't bad.

There were a few tracks that I wasn't a fan of until I heard them live on Light The Fuse. Like "Infamy". I liked the way it sounded in that show, and it turned me onto the studio track more. And sometimes I get more into a song after I learn how to play it. Not a song I don't like, but one I might find kind of middle of the road, but appreciate it more after a better understanding. And after learning Rough Justice I enjoy it more too.

You're right. It's more like a finished jam session. Whenever I hear it, I can't wait for it to finish.

The Stones will never be able to satisfy their fans because plainly too many of them live in nostalgia when they first heard 'Let It Bleed' or 'Exile' or 'Some Girls' or even 'Tattoo'. Everyone puts those records on and are transported back in the day of their youth and glory days. So these days, everything sucks now according to them. But there are very few albums any artist has put out that every song is a winner for everyone-it's next to impossible. I thought the Stones did a great job overall putting together a rock album in 05. It's got tough blues, some gritty rock and of course, the ballads of mick and keith, and some dance. The same formula they have been doing for quite sometime now. i personally can't wait and hope they record a new album, hopefully original material, but i'll take covers too.
