Like every post-Tattoo You release; it's meerly so-so. There are some decent tracks, but also some definite subpar filler. As is the case with the more interesting Bridges To Bsbylon, it's overlong.

it hurts my head to disect their music so much. I like the sound of the band and the groove they can get going. If im not in the mood for a particular song, I skip it.

Good point - I should go with my instincts & play what I want! Time is short!

phew. you had me worried. enjoy your weekend...your ABB-FREE weekend!

I'll be working on my abs this weekend in an ironic twist. Or is that just a coincidence?

wait a second...you're working on your ABs...i'm working on my CDs....anyone working on their EFs? let's keep this thing going!

It must have been the greatest album they ever recorded, at least from The Stones' point of view. Has to be--because they haven't recorded an album since. They must have thought, How can we top ABB? No point in recording any more albums now...

Very funny!

We're not "dicecting" it, we're just trying to put into words why we loathe it (or love it) so much. Of course I skip ABB completely, just like you.....if I didn't; my posts here concerning that album would be much more negative.

Its a solide effort just take it for that. You can not compare this album to Let it Bleed!! Wow! Its one of the better latter day Stones albums.

Generally I agree, although we should proceed cautiously...mind your P's & Q's.

I played it today.

It's OK.

And there's no bigger praise than that.

@ifyacantrockme - I agree with you to an extent. I don't live in nostalgia-land since I'm 29 and did not grow up with them back in the 60s. I am not a fan of ABB because of the SONGS, not because of a comparison. I follow music like most people follow sports. I could care less about SEC football or FIFA futbol. Doesn't matter to me. Good music does. And ABB is mediocre, and poorly mixed.

Streets Of Love, Biggest Mistake, Dangerous Beauty, Sweet Neo Con, Look What The Cat Dragged In, Driving Too Fast, Infamy... Those are lousy 2nd-rate Stones songs. The rest of the album is GREAT, as are the two b-sides from the expanded release.

The Stones will never be able to satisfy their fans because plainly too many of them live in nostalgia when they first heard 'Let It Bleed' or 'Exile' or 'Some Girls' or even 'Tattoo'. Everyone puts those records on and are transported back in the day of their youth and glory days. So these days, everything sucks now according to them. But there are very few albums any artist has put out that every song is a winner for everyone-it's next to impossible. I thought the Stones did a great job overall putting together a rock album in 05. It's got tough blues, some gritty rock and of course, the ballads of mick and keith, and some dance. The same formula they have been doing for quite sometime now. i personally can't wait and hope they record a new album, hopefully original material, but i'll take covers too.

The one thing the album is missing: good songwriting. It's just not there. That's why I've probably listened to the entire album from start to finish, maybe, 3-4 times, ever. It's simply a poorly written collection of 'songs'.

Very good album, indeed. IMO, ABB is slightly better than B2B, slightly lower than Voodoo Lounge and clearly superior than Steel Wheels. I know, many fans disagree, but that's my opinion and my appreciaton of the albums of the post-1989 era.

(Steel Wheels 6/10, VL 8,5/ 10, B2B 7,5/10, ABB 8/10)

Heard "Look What the Cat Dragged In" randomly yesterday. Played it on purpose today. Not real profound or anything but a fun tune and the Stones rock it. Bigger Bang is great to me.

"Back of My Hand" deserves more attention than it has gotten.

T&A, didn't you once say that Back of My Hand sounded a bit like Robert Johnson, or am I thinking of Petrol Blues?

That depends on how shortsighted you are. For the argus-eyed it isn't.

I can be argus-eyed after a very good night sleep. Of course that never happens.

On the other hand, I have a targus carrying case for my laptop.

I can never understand why people say that it was too long and they should have left some of the songs off, well imagine that they, did then everyone would be asking what the ones they left off sounded like and hey prestow 5 years later they re-release it and put the extra songs in as a bonus then everyone would think it was great. Just can't win really can they.

Personally i would love them to put all songs they record bad or good on all the albums then we can choose what we want to hear.

i would never utter such blasphemy. back of my hand sounds like something written on the back of an envelope in 3 minutes...

Perhaps you are diceting it while others are disecting it. A considerable difference between the two.
