If they never did anything else, they would be legendary for their work with Aretha alone:

I Never Loved a Man
Respect
Do Right Woman
Natural Woman
Dr. Feelgood
Save Me
Baby I Love You
Chain of Fools
Since You've Been Gone (Sweet Sweet Baby)
Ain't No Way
I Say A Little Prayer
House That Jack Built
See Saw
The Weight
Eleanor Rigby
Call Me

And these are just the hits.....

the James Jamerson of southern soul.

Aretha's version of The Weight has some amazing Duane Allman slide.

Likewise, his guitar solo on Clarence Carter's Road to Love is equally good, ditto Lend Me A Dime by Boz Scaggs.

That first album by Scaggs was recorded down in Muscle Shoals.

Lulu did a great album, on Atco, entitled New Routes, which was recorded down in Muscle Shoals. I think she was trying to emulate Dusty In Memphis.

speaking of muscle shoals and duane's slide - john hammond's "southern fried" album was recorded there and features some of duane's slick slide stuff....not my fave hammond record, but worth a listen or three....

You're lucky, as the Atco Sessions 2cd is now deleted.

All the rubbish, i.e Mickey Most and Take That, isn't deleted, but the cream is. She did another album with the Dixie Flyers, Melody Fair, that was just as good as New Routes.

I sometimes hide the cover of the Lulu cd, and ask people, once I play it, if they can guess who it is. People are surprised, when they find out it's Lulu.

You may very well think that, I couldn't possibly comment.
