O.T. Some Steve Winwood-fans here?

For me just of the best "singers". Great compositions with the "Spencer Davis group" back in the 60th. "Traffic" was awesome and they really recorded Great Albums. "blind faith"--one of the most important albums in the 60th or was it 1970?

Great solo albums, so what i wanna say,---I really like That!!

Steve Winwood is a great musician for me and I just mention a few of my vinyl;
Spencer Davis
Traffic
Session work with Jimi Hendrix Experience "Electric Ladyland".

Definitely one of the best, and has maintained a level of greatness even till now.

Spencer Davis Group - great with Steve
Traffic - Love John Barleycorn Must Die; one of the greatest albums ever, and it's as if Ray Charles decided to listen to Fairport Convention. Paul Weller does a Winwoodesque John Barleycorn on the first Imaginary Village album.

Blind Faith - Great album, but would have rather preferred the 2001 2cd deluxe to have had the Hyde Park gig as opposed to a series of jams. We can but dream

Traffic - On The Road (Would love a deluxe of this: it's Traffic meeting the Muscle Shoals musicians for a great live gig)

Steve Winwood solo - Great, even Junction Seven. He's also done some excellent recent solo albums, and that live album with Clapton is amazing.

Regret I never saw Traffic back in the day but I did see Blind Faith, Bridgeport Ct 1970 at an outdoor gig. They were Horrible..saw SW & EC at MSG a few years ago , EC was absolutely brilliant that night as SW's guitarist, SW was everything that night, singer, keyboards, guitars, saw him with his solo band several times, you should catch MR FANTASY if you can.

One of the greatest 'artistic come-backs' with About Time.
Because, let's face it...the nineties was not his best decade.
But besides that I'm a huge fan of every phase in his career.

Live, also still quite amazing.

For me Winwood and Marriott are the two best singers Great Britain has ever produced. Pure white soul.

Hi Mike & Tom,

And Dusty. Got to say , Mr. Winwood has talent to burn...have only seen him a couple of times in recent years but he is an extraordinary performer, whether singing, strumming or playing the keys. Just tremendous!

Cheers,

Simon.

I regret that I did not see him live. Maybe someday. I did see the Spencer Davis Group in 1969 without SW, and they weren't much at all. As a teenager, he had the voice of an accomplished blues singer. He was and remains an amazing vocalist and musician. I think to this day that "Gimme Some Lovin'" is one of the great "party" songs ever recorded.

Yeah Tom, John Barleycorn is one of the greatest. Also the song itself may be one of the best songs ever.

I've been a fan of Steve for almost 50 years (I'm older than he ...) and his "resurrection" after 2000 was great.

Saw him several times in the last years in smaller venues in Germany and England and then the openair conceert with Eric Clapton in Munich - unbelievably good!

They played almost better than 40 years ago!

There is a DVD of their concerts in NYC: Maison Square Garden,

I'm hoping he'll return to Europe this year - maybe again with EC ...

PS: Those concerts with "GO" are often overlooked.

As you all may be aware Jimmy Miller produced Traffic/Mr Fantasy, when MJ heard it he wanted JM as their producer. I believe JJF first tune with JM as producer.

He always managed to sound effortlessly contemporary no matter what decade he would be recording in, like with this synth-only song Valerie from 1982's Talking Back To The Night.

He remade the song in 1987 with drums and guitars and had a big hit.

I quite like the 1982 synth-only version better, as it has more warmth in the production and less of those gimmicky late 80s production tricks--still a great song though.
