George Thorogood and The Stones

Saw Thorogood live last Thursday night. Really great show...the guy plays a mean slide guitar. Made me think of a rumor I once heard about him being considered to replace Ronnie. I never did hear if there was any truth to it, and I figured this would be the place to ask. smiling smiley Anyone here know if that really happened?

i think there was some serious cred to it...'81 tour....

will be seeing him headline a bluesfest next month...he's part of "the family."

I don't believe George was trying to find no job. I seen him today standin' on a corner, leaning up against a post...said he was tired

Unless he wanted to be like his big brother Bob.

Snob. Great rocking bar blues. The Destroyers a great back up band and George could/can rip it up on country picking slide.

I'm not familiar with 'vomit'. Must be a good rockin' number though. Perhaps a few tracks away from 1B 1S and 1B

I like George's honest, straight boogie rock. I don't know about the lyrics though. I never paid that much attention to them.
Maybe because English is not my first language. Music first, lyrics second. At least when it comes to rock and roll.

attitude first, music second.....lyrics a distant and optional third.

those songs are ok

derivitive hell yeah, but ok

george has some great stuff, my favs are his oldie, covers

you got to lose
ride on josephine
kind hearted woman
nadine
john hardy
same thing
huckle up baby
restless

..and stuff

i really like his new one alot, '2120 S Michigan Ave' (Chess covers)

the stones connection there is that as a kid george heard the Stones song "2120 South Michigan Avenue," so he wrote the label asking for a catalog, and what he bought and heard afterwards influenced his entire career and life

the one thing i always expected outta lonesome george was something more of an acoustic or country-flavored record...almost invariably my fave tunes of his are of that ilk.....still waiting, geo.....

me too, but you can easily make up your own such record by cherry picking off his catalogue

thats what I did, anyway

that's the artist's responsibility. i can't be in charge of everything. isn't it enough that i illegally download this stuff and rob him blind?

Don't think the Stones ever considered Thorogood as a permanent replacement for Ronnie.
But, - Jagger as always didn't want no risk if Ronnie finally collapsed or did a Keith in Toronto job.So T. was sort of a stand-by guitarist/ repacement during the US part of tour.

I'm not sure what would have happened to the Stones sound with a George and Keef combo, but I would have liked to have heard it!

George would have taken the RS to new heights. But I read an interview where he disparaged the RS, also praising the Beatles, calling John Lennon a genius.

saw him once in LA - opening for Bob Dylan – and I got the impression he was somehow trying to imitate Mick Jagger (Thorogood of course, not B.D.). Everything got better when you closed your eyes…
