I've never heard a live version of GIMME SHELTER that has the dark, eschatological feel of the studio version.

It's Keith doing what he does best. His songs.
I think this one is Boston...Toronto '93 version is my favorite...

Love this version, very soulful. The whole band is so tight and look great together, even Waddy - check out his leather pants, he almost looks sexy! smiling smiley

Musically fantastic. Only missing one itty bitty thing to make it EXCELLENT.

Wow! That's a sentence! thumbs up grinning smiley

Me I like the version that's on the "So Happy" boot (one Spain'92 show). The one on the official "Eileen" single-cd ain't bad either...

Compare it to this one, also very good. Lisa Fischer owns it.

I remember a news article in 1992 or 1993, saying that Jagger attended a Keith Richards & X-pensive Winos show. During Gimme Shelter, Jagger rolled his eyes (right expression?) and left the venue.

I like Keith's version, but I really dislike the female singing in both his version and Rolling Stones 1989-2007 live versions; wish they'd spare us for that

That silly Mick, I wonder if he was jealous. I would agree that Keiths live version is the next best thing to the studio one. I love the loud powerful guitars.

Just watched the vid 2000 LYFH posted and a thought came :
this may be a solo Keith tour (with Keith calling all the shots) but this tour/band has the same flaw that plagued the 1989 SW tour : image over sound.

The guys in the band spend so much energy looking the part (and for this show mugging for the camera) that what they play seems secondary. And that's too bad...

hey Keith didn't you once say "the eyes are the whore of the senses"?
At least Dylan in those days (92-93) couldn't care less about what he looked onstage and what kind of image his band projected...

Love the various live versions..but few, if any have the brilliant harmonica work that the studio version has.

Wonder why Mick never plays harp on the live versions?

This is playing all the way, music, that is.

The posing on the tours to come was way worse, imo.
