I didnt find it all that close or spooky, though there is a moment here and there...

Is this the same Don Covay who sings background vocals on "one hit to the body"?

Or is it Don Covay singing lead and Mick just lip-synching?

a couple of very enlightening pages from Ian McPherson's fine site:
[www.timeisonourside.com] and [www.timeisonourside.com]
both are well worth exploring at length - have fun!

South Carolina-born soul singer Don Covay is one of those people who has acted as both
an influence on, and a collaborator with, the the Stones. Covay's period of real success was in the early to mid 1960s,
when he wrote and performed some soul classics, including Mercy, Mercy, which the Stones covered.
Twenty years later, in 1985, Covay joined Bobby Womack for the Stones' Dirty Work mixing sessions held in New York.
Covay sang background with the others on One Hit.
Ron Wood and Bobby Womack participated on a tribute album to Covay in 1993.

Despite the problems within the band while we were recording Dirty Work, there were some special moments, especially when Bobby Womack and Don Covay added their vocals to Harlem Shuffle. The Stones had done that cover version of Don's Mercy Mercy at Chess Studios in '64, and Bobby, apart from being a great vocalist, had been in the Valentinos when they had recorded his song It's All Over Now, which was the Stones' first hit. On that track we were paying respect to both of them. I particularly got off on that because Bobby and Don have always been very special and very close to me - Bobby was a collaborator on my solo albums - so for me personally it felt like a very special achievement to have been part of getting them involved, which was partly my doing and partly Mick acquiescing to work with them... Bobby and Don helped add a little bit of magic to Harlem Shuffle, with all the history adding to the tonal qualities of their voices. There is a little bit of Don Covay in Mick's voice: it's something that Mick doesn't realise so much - I think we all do more than he does. There is something similar in the make-up of their voice box, a very similar ring.

- Ron Wood, 2003

I think Don sounds exactly like Mick on this tune

I love Don Convays music. Everytime I listen to this particular song "Its In The Wind" Don's vocals reminds me so much of Micks voice.

Great post! OUTSTANDING!
Yeah, Bad Luck is total Mick sounding song, and from a great album called Super Bad. ON that album there is a song called Sweet Thang, doesn't sound like Mick's version, but the title being very close. Great quote from Ronnie! Good research!

And of course Covay, Womack and Jagger duet on the 'Sending out Invitations' outtake, written by Wood and Womack.
