Blondie's Guitar Playing
Posted by: More Hot Rocks ()

I'd like to bring up a topic on Blondie more in depth. Many people have been making comments and jokes about Blondie covering up for Keith on guitar. Here's a few points.

1) Out of the many many times I've seen Blondie playing guitar with the Stones. I have never ever heard him through the PA. Never. Everything else is drowning him out.
2) On the offical bootlegs and DVD's you can not hear him
3) On boots also he is not audible.
4) Also he doesn't double Keith's part like a few people mentioned. All he doesn't is strum bar chords by watching him.

Any comments. Anybody have an audio of Blondie?

I've seen Blondie play with Waddy Wachtel at least a half dozen times.
Waddy plays lead 99% of the time, one exception is when he plays Bitch (the first guitar break). I've seen Waddy do this with several guest guitarists. Blondie just nails it! (And I think it's the Taylor part.)

Perhaps it was like in the subway. He played guitar behind the amps like a beggar. Don't know if he won a kopec. There is surely a reason why he was there. Jagger doesn't spend his money for nothing.

He plays a mean cowbell on Honky Tonk.

More Hot Rocks,

His electric-acoustic is clearly audiable on Live Licks, especially on the war horses.

Bluz Dude...I saw him perform with Rick, Phil, and Bernard at The Joint one time without Waddy... He really got the chance to take a leading role on the guitar, and he shined.

Joe Bonamassa thinks alot of him. He's played on his last few cd's. Just wish I could hear him more live with The Stones

Back in 2002 when the Stones were playing The Wiltern, I was in line waiting for my wristbands or tickets or whatever, and some dude struck up a conversation with me...he said he was friends with Blondie and was a member of the road crew during his days with the Beach Boys. He made a point to mention how much Blondie actually played electric during Stones shows, saying something like "You don't always see him, but it's much more than people think." Who knows if the guy was legit or not, but his claims seem plausible, especially all these years later.

In 2006 there was a great evening at Paradiso in Amsterdam.
Chris Jagger and band (and Bobby Keys) did the the first half of the evening.
Second half was for Tim Ries and band, joined by Bernard Fowler and Blondie Chaplin.
During that performance Blondie took the stage on his own to play a couple of songs solo, only accompanied by his accoustic guitar.
It was stunning, amazing, beautiful etc.

Listen to Nearness Of You from Live Licks/Four Flicks. The acoustic guitar there is Blondie, and it´s great. He´s a good guitar player.

Blondie joined our band onstage on two occasions, playing guitar and I can assure you he plays a mean lick. A musician at heart and a very nice and modest guy.

Blondie can't cover Keith because he plays an acoustic.

Yeah... right.

Effects pedals are awesome these days.

He's all over David Johansen's album HERE COMES THE NIGHT -- he co-wrote most of the songs & he's on the back cover.
