Who wrote Ooh La La? ... Ronnie or Ronnie?

Wood or Lane?

I remember a big debate about this long ago (likely on another bbs) but not sure if it was ever resolved. My contention is that it was Woody, as he sings it & has played it at every live show he's ever done, almost.

And, does anyone know if Ronnie ever sang any other Faces tunes?

mac; he plays and sings it even more often than ron.

My understanding is that Ronnie Lane was the primary writer of Ooh La La. That lyric seems totally out of Ron Wood's league.

Wood only sang it after Rod Stewart refused. Stewart eventually sang it on one of his solo albums after Lane died.

I always thought it was Ronnie Lane.

... is there any reason to think it wasn't a Lane/Wood collaboration, like the credits say?
i don't hear anything about it that's "out of RW's league" - he's written miles of very strong numbers

On his radio show (show # 78) Ronnie Wood said that he wrote Ooh La La
together with Ronnie Lane at Ronnie & Sue Lane's flat near Richmond
Bridge. So I guess they wrote the music together and Ronnie Lane did
the bulk of the words.

The riff is pure Wood to me. The lyrics must be Lane.

I don't think there's any argument on that actually.

I claim nothing but this is, well, who knows:

"Ooh La La" is the title song to the album, a Faces song, written by Ronnie Lane and Ronnie Wood. It was Ronnie Wood, not Rod Stewart or Ronnie Lane, who sang the lead vocal for this song. Stewart did not think the song was up to his standards although both he and Lane recorded lead vocals for it. Their producer suggested Wood give it a try, and that's the version that was used for the track which appeared on the record, which was the Faces last studio album.

"Stewart did not think the song was up to his standard".

Really? The same standard that "Hot Legs" and his complete ripoff of Dylan's "Forever Young" were up to?

Lane wrote it. I recall reading that Wood was the 3rd ( and best) choice to sing it.

It's funny, several posters are just saying 'lane wrote it' with no consideration of otherwise, and no proof, yet there are two posts that show it was both, one stating what ronnie said on the show and the other wiki link stating it was both ... and the credits of the song showing both.

I would have to say all evidence points to a collaboration.

Well I say Woody wrote it cause it has a typical Woody-melody to it...

Maybe because they believe what they want to believe and their opinions are more important than facts ???

From the booklet that accompanies the great Five Guys Walk into a Bar, about the song and
the album:

To McLagan Ooh La La was simply Ronnie's album. "Rod wasn't there a lot." Distracted by
his own success (...) Stewart missed the first two weeks of Ooh La La sessions, according to McLagan.
"But Ronnie had his songs together already" -entire numbers like "Glad and Sorry" and "Just
another Honky"; the nearly finished gems "Flags and Banners" and "If I'm on the late side",
which he completed with Stewart; and the immortal title ode to carefree living and the
inevitable payback cowritten with Wood

Ooh La La was deceptively spry, a country hop with a haunting, prophetic undertow (...)
Lane did not sing it on the album, however, and Stewart declined. "It was too high or
too low for Ronnie - I can't remember which" says McLagan, "And Rod said it was in the wrong
key for him". Wood did the honors in a strained, endearing tenor that the rest of the
Faces did not fully appreciate at the time

Mostly because it says Lennon/McCartney on Yesterday...we all know who wrote it...on the sound...

Yeah, but they were a team with a deal, can't say that about the two Ronnies, can we?
