There is none that I can perceive. The word 'irony' is often misused. Ask Alanis Morrisette.

Her song is actually extremely ironic in the sense that it doesn't include any irony. In fact it's ironic that a song about irony is ironic for not having any irony. I hope that makes sense cause it did in my head.

"It's like rain on your wedding day!"
Well actually, no it isn't...

The irony with IORR is the fact that many IORR:ans doesn't get irony! Confusion of languages may be one reason but there are other reasons too.

From [www.cracked.com]

Ironic

People think it means:
Any kind of amusing coincidence.

Actually means:
An outcome that is the opposite of what you'd expect.

So, if a porn star moved to Virgin, Utah, that would be ironic. If the same porn star bought a house in Boner Knob, Montana that would not be ironic.

Should you care?
We realize this is a technical point. But, it's almost worth taking a stand because the word has been abused to the point that it can mean anything.

"She always said she wanted to marry a dentist! And then she married Bob, who is a dentist! Isn't that ironic?"

"I went on my cigarette break, but there was a No Smoking sign! Isn't that ironic?"

"I just pooped in your aquarium! Isn't that ironic?"

We have to draw the line somewhere, don't we?

The fact that:

were side by side makes it ironic either way. Ya can't spell ironic with out IOR(R).

Neither of these is representative or irony.

it IS ironic, though, to have a post about irony that has nothing to do with irony.

Nobody said they were. It's called humor. BTW, did you mean "of"?

Actually they did day it was irony but if it was humor it was lost on me in this particular instance. I did mean 'of' by the way. I should read my own text more often before posting.

Rolling Stones scheduled to play New Orleans, then Katrina came along.

Replacing the Stones on the cancelled date, a Billy Graham Crusade.
