All of the albums noted previously are definitive - no doubt about that..classics even... But the album I choose is not at all in the same class necessarily - but presonally - my fav has to be 'Still Life' -- I was 16, hanging out, a summer of your best buddies, meeting girls living in the Courts, some smoke, some drinking, long endles summer eveningswith nothing to do but hang with your crowd....life hadn't yet kicked you in the face...throwing in the casette tape ...and cranking the volume -- "..thank-you very, very much - and ladies and gentlemen - would you welcome please, the Rolling Stones....."

"..maybe your friends say...."

The UFO record is cool, but I hate to tell you most of it was recorded in the studio. I will look out for that Bob Mould record mentioned, I think I saw that tour when he played in London with Mercury Rev, a classic show.

Other than Stones, the live albums I've heard the most over the years are

Made in Japan..Deep Purple
Rockin' the Fillmore...Humble Pie

And I'm not the biggest fan of any of those bands but those two live albums are just great.

Also loved Yessongs.

how many of those are really live though? the best thing about KISS ALIVE 2, paul stanley's backing vocals and lead vocals at the same time. the magic of the studio winking smiley

I love The J. Geils Band - Full House.

I used to play Foghat Live constantly, as well.

Somebody here mentioned Velvet Underground the Quine Tapes.
I always disliked live recordings by the velvets, but this one is something different.
If you dislike 1969 and Max's kansas city, try the Quine tapes.
Excellent. Not the greatest live album of all time, but quite excellent.

Here's a couple of my faves that I don't think have been mentioned yet:

GYYO is my favorite, Live at Leeds my 2nd favorite. Hendrix at Berkeley probably my third...

...some other personal favorites are the Ventures 'Live in Japan '65', Husker Du 'the Living End', Magic Sam 'Live At Ann Arbor & In Chicago'...
