I think their most inventive album ie taking some chances, doing something DIFFERENt, was Undercover.

Some Girls is an obvious choice. I don't think Tattoo You fits in so well since it wasn't a newly recorded album.

I'd give a nod to Emotional Rescue but to say it's the best since Exile? I dunno. It's pretty consistent production and sound wise but it's a bit odd.

I'll go with Undercover followed very close with Some Girls, sort of a 1 and 1A.

i never understood why TY must be disqualified just cos it wasn't recorded as an album. seems like such an abritrary criterion. please reinstate TY's qualification.

OK T&A...yer right but I was going by "new".

By far Tattoo You is their best album since Exile and remains so. As far as newly recorded albums, for me it's Undercover. But yeah, Tattoo You is insane and at times almost better than any album they've done.

A lot Edith , a lot...

I like GHS-IORR-Black and Blue -Some Girls-ER-TY and VL
I dislike Undercover except for a few tracks
I use my joker for DW-BTB and ABB
Should think at "Stripped" also which is IMO their last great release, it's not really an Album...but I like the way they did it!

Does EOMS with outtakes count? If not, SG.

I think Tattoo You is the best, however, I'd have to give Undercover the most unique & interesting. I love this album, even with it's 80's production.

Title track IMHO is their best track 1981 onwards.

Some Girls.

Not Tattoo You. Maybe it's because the interminable Slave puts me in a bad mood for the rest of the album but I'm not that fond of it.

I rate Some Girls a very good album.
Emotional Rescue is the first Stones album without a meaning. Tattoo You is slightly better, but sure because of the better songs and better sound.

Undercover never made it to my favourites, so did Dirty Work. Undercover is much too experimental and Dirty Work seems to be kind of unfinished. You can clearly hear Mick's disinterest.
I liked Steel Wheels when it was released and still like so songs but the overall album's not better than Some Girls.

Voodoo Lounge is for sure the far best since Some Girls but not better than that.

Bridges To Babylon is much underrrated and musically slightly better than VL BUT the many producers made it kind of patchwork. I miss the thread.

A Bigger Bang lacks life blood. The Stones needed a new album and recorded it but without passsion. Overally speaking, it's a good album but without soul.

So, Some Girls#s the best album since Exile, followed by Voodoo Lounge. That's my personal feeling
