Living right next to Buffalo, NY I can think of a few

1) Cory Wells - Three Dog Night

2) The Goo Goo Dolls

3) Gary Mallerbar - Drummer with Steve Miller at his peak

4) Spyro Gyra - Jazz fusion Band

5) Brian McKnight - Pop soul singer

How about you guys?

Billy Childish - Buff Medways (Chatham, Kent, UK)
Mick, Keith, Dick Taylor and Phil May (Dartford, Kent, UK)

OK, so I was born in Chatham and not Dartford, but I resided in the latter for a couple of years and I know the area fairly well.

I was born in Atlanta and live in New Orleans.

It would take me hours to come up with a list, especially just from New Orleans.

I'm from London. Which era shall we start with? Went to college with Sid Vicious, John Lydon and Jah Wobble. Madness went to the school down the road.

Was it obvious he had talent even then?

Haha - he thought he had talent in trying to sleep with my girlfriend but never did. He also had a lot of talent for not attending classes and taking copious amounts of sulphate to hang around in the common room.

Brad Delp, Freddie Cannon, Mike Ness, and Evan Dando are from the immediate vicinity but not the town itself.

I live in Margate (Kent, UK), & literally around the corner from my house (30 seconds walk) is The Nayland Rock Hotel where Mick & Jerry held their wedding reception (I believe Mick's parents used to live in nearby Birchington, as did / do the parents of Lonnie Donegan & George Michael). As for rock stars actually being from here, I don't think so, though one of the world's most famous living artists Tracey Emin was raised here.

I was born in the Old Kent Road area of London & spent most of my childhood & teens there. Tommy Steele was a local boy I believe.

More Hot Rocks:

Sounds like we are from the same hometown!

I will add to your list:

Rick James (RIP)

2/3 of the band Soulive (who have shared some bills with the Stones and are playing here on Friday)

Billy Sheehan (of Mr Big and David Lee Roth's band)

10,000 Maniacs (technically outside of Buffalo)

And a guy that should be a star, and has huge fans in Bruce Springsteen and Mike Peters: Willie Nile.

People from England have an unfair advantage - that country is a dream factory of rock musicians smiling smiley

I was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. The only musician folk I've heard of coming from there are Gwen and George McRae, a now divorced couple who made two soul classics in the 70's - "Rockin' Chair" and this 'un:

From my home town of Hull the great Mick Ronson. Apart from that some lesser lights such as the Housemartins and a lot of folkies such as Michael Chapman, Rick Kemp (Steeleye Span)

A few 60's crooners too.

All of the Spiders From Mars were of course from Hull and I went to school with Woody Woodmansy's cousin.

How could I forget Rick James. Don't forget the great Stan Szelest. I didn't know some of the guys from Soulive were from here! I saw them twice open for The Stones

It's not my hometown, but I lived in West Lafayette, IN. There was a guy who grew up there named Bill Bailey that went on to some fame. The guitarist for his group also went to high school there.
