THE 1967 EUROPEAN TOUR WAS AWESOME!
Date: December 1, 2007 15:20

Check out these vids for proof of how awesome that tour was. The Stones really were ahead of their time. These live recordings don't really sound that different from the kind of punk rock stuff that was being recorded in the late 70's. People who say "Some Girls" was the Stones' attempt at trying to appeal to the punk crowd should really listen to these recordings to realize that they pioneered that sound. High-energy rock and roll at its finest. Please check out these videos and let me know what you think.

These are probably the best live versions of "Let's Spend The Night Together" and "Satisfaction" I've ever head. They were recorded live in Paris, 1967:

"Under My Thumb" and "Paint It Black" live in Paris, 1967:

It must have been a strange tour as well... The recordings aren't that clear, but the music sounds like a giant ball of energy rushing from the stage.

Yes! I've always thought the few shows that have circulated had a bit of the early punk sounds, including some Velvet Underground influence in the guitar sounds as well.

My thanks goes to those who posted and especially to bootlegman for collecting them altogether in 'as close as can be' chronological order, fantastic!

The 1776 tour was great! Mick was doing the "Redcoats Rifle" dance like crazy. It had just become popular. And "Sympathy for King George" was a big hit! The used to encore with "Under My Musket" and the girls went wild! throwing their year old panties at the stage! A few shows had to stopped because the band fainted from the smell!

They had the all new Vox solid state amps by then...

Keith and Brian had a Vox Supreme in to 4 x 12(with two midax horns) cab each, Bill plugged in to the Vox Super Foundation which had a giant 2 x 18 cab! Yikes!

The bottom is so fat on these Let's Spend The Night Together and Satisfaction versions. Very cool. I also like how Charlie cuts through with the machine gum fills. Tres chic.

I'm tired, I'm tired of doing what I'm told.
Things are moving way too slow.

But let's get back to the "serious" aspects of the tour: What about the setlist?... They already had four European tour warhorses (Satisfaction, GOOMC, 19thNB, The Last Time) and did more to promote Aftermath than Between the Buttons.

Hi all!

I checked the download page that was linked from His Majesty, the sound on the Paris 1967 recordings was quite muddy compared to the Youtube clips.
Does anyone know about other sources?
I agree that 1967 was a special period, that links the "young lads" and latter days "mature" stones sounds together! Brian must have had a big case to bring the "addon" instuments with him!

I think the tracks featured on youtube were part of a radio broadcast, hence better quality. There must have been another source(audience member?) as I have a bootleg that features the good quality radio tracks, and also, the full gig but with the muddy sound.

Thanks! Great post.

And as a former Bill Wyman Basher...I have to see he makes Let's Spend the Night Together on this recording. The bass carries it (especially unusual on an old mono recording)

The '67 tour had a great setlist.

Here is the 1st Paris show:
Paint It Black
19th Nervous Breakdown
Lady Jane
Get Off Of My Cloud >>>
Yesterday's Papers
Under My Thumb
Ruby Tuesday
Let's Spend The Night Together
Goin' Home >>>
Satisfaction

I think it shows how the band was moving away from their earlier stuff. Too bad they didn't throw in some older stuff.

Thought that this thread could do with a bump...
the energy in those clips is just amazing - really worth revisiting.

And people moaned about the 'hits only' setlist back then.....wish they would play something new....hahahahaha

seek out Viny Gangs (VGP-101) A ROLLING STONE GATHERS NO MOSS 2cd set for the entire 67 bcast and the later re-bcast comprised of 65-66-67 sets for best quality IMO.

Have not heard these before. The first time I heard the guitar driven UMT was the 1981 tour. Now I know where it came from. Such power and energy.

None of you guys ever listened to the frenzied UMT from the "Got Live If You Want It" 60s album? But I must agree the Paris bcasts sound better than the legit London(or Decca) release!!
