Were the Stones invited, I wonder?

The Rolling Stones may have done Superbowl and a rich man's birthday party in Las Vegas, but a royal wedding in Britain? Leave that to Macca and Elton John!

the first word in the report states 'rumour', and thats not even an official site...

Can't see it happening, to be honest.

Thankfully. Pop music doesn't belong at such an event.

Well, if I was 29 years old, rich as Croesus, and going to be king and queen of England one day, I think I'd use my magical powers to get someone a lot more exciting than Macca and Elton to play at my wedding.

They must be a pretty dull couple.

I offered McCartney $500.00 to play my wedding and he told to piss off...

based on an unsubstantiated rumour about a 'possible' appearance?

I seriously doubt there'll be ANY pop/rock stars playing at it

Why not? They are a young couple. Publicity wise, the royals would rather show the public that they are in touch with the common man rather that smugly raising their noses to them.

BTW BV, reopen my thread on this.

Tradition, plus the fact that it's a wedding ceremony in a cathedral. Not a music gig.

To be honest, I think that there are far more people who would prefer that such events arent reduced to that populist level, and I can empathise with that. There's a time and a place for everything.

I was referring to the reception part of the wedding not in the Church.

Ah, ok. Gotcha. Still would imagine it's unlikely, though.

I can see Elton playing their reception because he was such good friends with Diana. Paul, nice idea but I bet if he could take a pass, he might. Although he did play at the White House and sang " Michelle" to Mrs Obama....

Hope the Royals all wear Canadian seal fur.

Assuming he has been invited, Macca could be caught between a rock and a hard place here. If he doesn't go he looks like an ingrate after he was made a knight by the royals. If he does go he disappoints his puppetmasters at PETA and looks like a big hypocrite. The royals ain't gonna be wearing any faux fur at this to do, and they ain't gonna be having any vegan supper there either. Tsk, tsk, what a tangled web we weave...

Isn't it obligatory for the British knightage, if invited, to attend at these regal weddings? You know, services and services in return... . Thus, Sir Michael has to attend to this matter of his peers?

I'd get a reunion of Oasis and watch the royalty puke on their suits/pass out/drop dead from boredom, etc. over the most overrated band in the history of music and their mid-tempo, half-baked cr-p! Once the guests have fallen over in a sea of their own excrement, the surviving members of the Clash rise up and save the party!

This is the royal family we're talkin' about, they personify dullness. These two aren't bad. You want dull ? Jeez, there's been a lot worse, I mean look at Queenie & hubby for example, does it get any duller and less inspiring ?

[ I want to shout, but I can hardly speak ]

Elton played at a royal funeral, so why not at a royal wedding?

This is just a rubbish rumour, because Macca and Elton John are the usual suspects when music's wanted for anything Prince Charles has to do with - but as far as William and Kate are concerned that'll be very much Dad Rock - I have no idea what they're into musically but I bet it isn't that!

When did they do the"rich man´s" birthday party?

First they did the PEPSI party in a tent in Hawaii Kona Island. With Maggie Thatcher in the tent crowd. Quite weired concept because the older Pepsi executives left the show before it was finished due to bed time. On the last tour they did the DEUTCHE BANK private party in Barcelona. Very secret but still great money for them to pay off some 7 million dollars touring money, nice way of getting a sponsor.

The rich guy show was quite spectacular, a one off at the Joint Las Vegas. read all about it here:

Background information
$7 MILLION BIRTHDAY BASH
by the New York Post, Nov 13, 2002

TEXAS billionaire David Bonderman is throwing himself one hell of a 60th-birthday party. The buyout king - a founding partner of the Texas Pacific Group, a private equity firm - has booked dozens of rooms at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for this weekend and hired the Rolling Stones to entertain his guests. Bonderman is said to be spending $7 million on the weekend. Mick Jagger and his bandmates will join up with John Mellencamp on Saturday to play at the Hard Rock's concert venue, the Joint, after a private dinner hosted by funnyman Robin Williams. Bonderman is having a temporary staircase built in the Joint, so guests won't have to leave the hall - and mingle with uninvited casino patrons - to get from the main room to the VIP balcony. Reps for Jagger, Williams and Mellencamp had "heard nothing about this."

Texas Pacific Group
Texas Pacific Group is based in Fort Worth, Texas and manages US$7 billion. It buys money losing firms and improves their performance, often selling them years later for a profit. This was done with Continental Airlines, which TPG bought in 1993 and then sold in 1998. It is led by Harvard law graduate David Bonderman, who is also chairman of European air carrier Ryanair. The firm has large stakes in many familiar names, including Del Monte fruits and vegetables, Punch Taverns, Ducati motorcycles, and J. Crew clothing. It is currently in the process of buying Burger King from Diageo of the U.K.

....

So it is time to save up, they do this one time per tour, the price for this show is going up every time, now closer to 10 million dollars, and if the schedule and your event and venue and everything else fit into what they like, they will do a show for you, and you only. With your selected friends!

PS. I did some calculations. I have a nice club here in Norway. It takes 1000 people. And they cost 10 mill usd. So that makes 10,000 dollar. I just need 999 friends to join in, and with some help I am sure we can get a special price of 5,000 so it's possible, absolutely! But is it worth it?
