THis is a classic hidden gem, a lesser known musician to some and a cult song for many...the recorded version had Steve Hillage on lead guitar....simply beautiful

Take "Can't you hear me knockin" for example. An absolutely fantastic rock song, and my favorite RS song, but many many people out there probably won't ever hear it.

I think it's actually one of their more well known songs, not on "War Horse" level, but the next level of popularity below that. It's been used in a lot of movies (Casino and Blow both come to mind), T.V. shows, was on one of those guitar hero type games, it's been on several of those Rolling Stone Magazine readers poll things (#25 on their list of 100 Greatest Guitar Songs), etc. And given it's length, and the not so accessible sounding outro, it actually gets pretty decent radio play, around here at least. It's one of those songs that casual Stones fans, who know I'm a fan, usually ask for me to put on when they get in my car or whatever. I don't think it's in any danger of being forgotten, and it's certainly not hidden.

A number of people here would be familiar with the mid-60s output of The Pretty Things, but likely less so of their mid-70s output, like the track It's Been So Long, from 1976 [a good late-night drinking song]:

Isn't virtually anything that wasn't a mainstram hit a hidden gem (aka Deep Cuts)? I come from the era of albums and I listen to them as a whole. People who buy greatest hits packages miss out on a lot of interesting stuff. Will.i.am makes this point talking about Exile in the documentary. He couldn't believe the Stones produced so many great songs on one record that weren't hits. From that perspective Bob Dylan has a rich history of hidden gems including great songs on lousy records. I've been on a Lou Reed kick and listening to The Blue Mask, that song "The Gun" is an amazing and very disturbing song.

Yeah, claiming a Stones song to be a HIDDEN gem on the worlds greatest Stonesforum was probably not entirely correct, but never the less, its undoubtedly a gem! smiling smiley

There are some gems on the Beatles Anthologies---like John's " Real Love"; that song haunts me..so simple and beautiful, unadorned magic.
