A number of the Top 5 Thread bands. Specifically, the Grateful Dead and The Doors.

And I got five TSP Rolling Stones LPs Friday -- Alternate Aftermath, Alternate Beggars, Liver Than They've Ever Been, Liver Than The First Show and Hello Leeds, Bye Bye UK.

***If I could post FLAC copies on the Buy/Sell/Trade section, I would.

Greetings from the Jersey Shore.

MGMT - psychedelic 80s inspired pop. Think a more pop Eno on acid with a band behind him.
School Of Seven Bells - fantastic shoegazing dreamy pop
Los Lobos - my album of the year. Brilliant laid back bluesy rock.

The only bands I have been really diggin besides Stones the past 40 years is The Saints and Dinosaur Jr. Of course there have been a few good tracks from hundred of bands, but really diggin is to buy all the records from the band, and read all about them and visit their concerts...

Much loved here also. A recent review I read called them probably the greatest American band at this time. Actually gotta agree! David Hidalgo is genius.

I've long thought that they are America's greatest band. They are so understated but their albums exude such coolness. They do great r'n'b but also heart-aching ballads to die for such as Tears Of God . This is true music of the soul.

...Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (from San Fransisco) is on fire, these days.
I saw them twice over the last 3 months (they're currently on some sort of worldtour, I presume), last time was thursday last week (aug 19) at Pukkelpop festival (Belgium), and they really were amazing. Their most recent album, "Beat the Devil's Tattoo", sounds a lot weaker than it does on stage; but that's just a personal impression- bottom line is, at least, that the songs sound mindbogglingly GOOD when oprformed live. And in any case: f you're looking to get to know this band, first get yourself a copy of their album "Howl" (2005) right before you go an check'em out live. You won't be disappointed!

i agree. best band out there for my money these days.....howl is a great album, and might be the one for some newbies to start with, though it's very different from most of their other works...reminds me in scope and spirit of The Band....

Tears of God is a haunting beauty.

Lobos brand new one, Tin Can Trust, is pretty good. The Lobos rarely fail to deliver....

The Flaming Lips*
Metric
Peter Wolf's new CD
The Sadies
Gaslight Anthem
Arcade Fire*

*Was not a big fan of eother The Flaming Lips or Arcade Fire until seeing them live this Summer. Both bands play with incredible energy and passion giving them a much better live vs studio sound.

Surprised no one mentioned Brant Bjork, best rocker around at the moment.

Other cool obscurities - Kevin K, Laureates and Ted Leo, but there are really a lot of mediocre shit bands around at the moment, thirsty days for our beloved rock n roll.

BMRC are a cool band but they are not THAT good in my opinion smiling smiley

Gluecifer

Ronnie Earl

and if you haven't checked out the DEADSTRING BROTHERS, check'em out! Very Stonesy, Exiles-ish sound.

Looking forward to getting the new Los Lobos, they are indeed a brilliant band.

Derek Trucks band. Of the new (if you consider 12 years being new) acts, they are very hard to beat. Derek is a slide master! Love to see him and Robert Randolf in a slide-off.

derek trucks band has been somewhat dismantled. he and his wife are now touring with a couple members of the DTB, but the word i've heard is that Derek is going to move forward in a new direction.
