What We Do Not Want in a New Stones CD
Posted by: flilflam ()

While we may never all agree on what kind of CD music we would want to appear in a new CD, we might be more successful at specifying what we do not want. Maybe, and maybe not.

I do not want:

Another pathetic attempt to recreate the magic of the seventies. That is ancient history and should never be attempted again.

I do not want appearances by Wyman or Taylor. They are gone for good.

I do not want the Stones to sound like any rock group now enjoying some degree of success.

I cannot understand why any Rolling Stones fan would pre-emptorily not want appearances by Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor. They are only "gone for good" if they don't appear. Why the hostility toward actual members of the band who were involved in their finest work?

There is only one thing I 'don't want" from a new album: Crap songs.

I do not want Bill Wyman.

I do not want 3 minute "punk rock" songs.

I do not want any hip hop sound.

I do not want no more than one Keith vocal tune

I do not want any "poppy" duets with pop artists...Were talking The ROLLING STONES darn it! No Offense to either, but Boy George & Keith Richards should NEVER sing a song together !!!!!!

I do not want A Streets of Love type song to soil the new album.
I do not want Mick to be the chief songwriter, nor to over-sing on any tune.
I do not want a sterilized/artificial sounding production.
I do not want Keith to be handicapped by his arthritis.

I do not want Chuck Leavell, Darryl Jones, Blondie Chaplin, Matt Clifford, Bernard Fowler, etc.
I do not want Don Was.
I do not want generic soulless Stones rockers (You Got Me Rocking, Flip The Switch, Rough Justice, etc.).

I want decent adult like lyrics. I liked ABB, however the lyrics are embarassing for people over 60. Stop singing about " cocks"like Rough Justice. Do some mature writing like side 2 of TAttOO YOU

No songs containing the words Following The River, Streets Of Love, Sweet Neo Con or just anything else at all pertaining to rivers or streets...that cross a river...with streets on the other side...

no overdubs
no additional musicians (except for a bass player)
no contemporary sound
no attempt to sound like in the 60s/70s/80s etc
no self repetition
no release of an album just as a excuse for another tour (i.e. don't release anything before there is something really good)

Acoustic Country Rock

An album with a theme rather than a bunch of songs thrown together

Input from the whole band inc. RW

Craft the songs with thought and lose the rebel/sex god image

Change producer

Then do a few theatre shows to promote it aka: Pay to view

These requests are rather hilarious. The boys are pushing 70 and you can't teach
old dogs new tricks. They ought to open the vaults and release some goodies from the past instead of a new album...

I do not want an album that panders to what people post on some internet message board.

A short cd...

Just an acoustic blues album with some electric guitars, "à la beggar's banquet". Back to the roots, let the new generations make the futur of rock'n'roll. The Stones played their part of the job and we all know what is the result. Can't hope anymore, the job was really great. Again, just a blues album.

So, what do you want? It is quite difficult to make an album that is not contemporary, but also does't sound like 60's, 70's and 80's....What should they do, make a 30's swing album?

The cock in Rough Justice is a male chicken, not the organ.

I don't want Don Was. And I don't want million dollar studios like Ocean Way Recording. Rent a house in Woodstock, get Rick Rubin in and record an album in 2 weeks.

You cracked me up !smiling smiley

I 've been told that "rooster" is used only in American English. Is this true ?

Since "cock" can have an offensive meaning, I thought that the only time that the word "cock" is commonly used for this animal is in the phrase "cock-fight" (a rooster fight )...

btw, I don't want Chuck Leavell, Blondie Chaplin, Bernard Fowler, etc.

I am a Frenchie ,as Mick affectionately called them in the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1977 .

Cock is derived from cockerel, and is Brit English for a male bird (not only a male chicken). Rooster stems from roosting, and is American English for a male chicken.

I want a new album! I dint want it over-produced or slick. Embrace the blues and country and rockabilly roots but go in forward direction. Hard rock and roll yes! I do want some damn good weaving and solos. If Taylor plays great of not, no prob. But don't do some sort of wierd duets albums like bb king has done over the past several years. Don't be afraid to break our the old ampegs and don't have the same old tone from ABB and B2b on the guitars. Don't do the same production slickness and don't be afraid of turning Jack White loose on your production. BTW I don't care what anybody says but you ARE the greatest rock and roll Band ever & you don't have to follow any trend you are Above the Contemporary (those last lines oughta piss some people off on this board.)

Go Dawgs!
