Ive heard one of the main reasons for the Pyrotechnics show is while that is going off it gives the Band members and their entourage plenty of time to get to their vehicles before the fans come out and start gathering around them and the exits.Its certainly a good way of buying some time because it must take a wee while to get everyone organised.Also their drivers can get a clear run back to their Hotels or where ever they're going without to much traffic on the roads from the fans leaving also.
