Record Collector 1992
Posted by: bolexman ()

Yesterday I received an old copy of "Record Collector" magazine, 1992 issue on The Stones top 100 collectible records. I would like to scan it and post it here at IORR for other people to enjoy... It is written by Chris Eborn and maybe he is a member of IORR? Does anybody here object to me scanning and posting the article (would Mr.Eborn object?). I want to be respectful to people here who have taken the time to write articles and books...

If no-one objects I'll scan the article tommorrow night, It is really interesting reading, even though the prices for the records are 1992 prices! It has many things to say about the Decca Promotional LP and the Street Fighting Man 45' single... By the way I think it is good to share information about collecting Stones vinyl records, and I always enjoy learning something new. Cheers!

I didn't bother cropping out the advertisements, maybe they also provide some interest to people here? Interesting to see how things were in 1992. And notice there is no reference to the internet in the advertisements... the web didn't really take off for a few years yet... Thanks again to Chris Eborn for writing this article

You're welcome klrkcr. If you look closely at some of the scans, you'll see the edge is slightly distorted from folding... I am clearly not a scanning maestro like Rockman! There is only one Rockman... Hey Rockman if you are reading this, how freezing is it in Melbourne these days! This weather is intense. I'm off now to enjoy a good Muscat...

Thanks for sharing, bolexman. I would have thought the picture sleeve SFM would have been higher.

The price for SFM is listed as the demo export...presumably UK.

THE single most expensive Stones item ever, is the Street Fighting Man US single, with picture sleeve. I believe the rumour is 11 or 12 copies exist.

I saw it bid on EBAY about 3 years ago, for $15000.

The second rarest item, is the Beast of Burden 45 and picture sleeve (clearly it is the PS's that are important here). That I think went for $2000-3000 range.

I believe I've seen a good copy of the Promo album go for $1500 or so.

I have Heart of Stone PS, USA, which is worth about $500-600 .

Interestingly, the Promo album listed, shows London RSD (which is the US market release) listed and 400 copies printed, 200 for the UK market.

I believe it is fairly widely known that the UK promo album is actually RSM.

There were 200 printed for each market. 200 RSD, and 200 RSM.

MANY fakes out there, so beware. I bought one, knowing it was fake, just for the novelty...paid about $25.

There is also an Australian release of this from the 70's...called Limited Edition, or something like that. Slightly different track listing I believe, and fairly rare as well.

I got the Digital Dreams OST for a lot less than £100, Bill Wyman was selling copies for about £30, guess the reason it was rare was because he had all the copies !

So, when he isn't shilling his metal detector he's shilling his material.

Good thing he's left the stones, it's opened up a whole new world of opportunity for him.

This may well be true, but surely the withdrawn 'Fortune Teller/Poison Ivy' single is up there with the very rarest of Stones collectables? I understand that there were only a few pressed and those were given to radio DJ's.
