So Mick thought about replacing Keith in the late seventies, now Keith talks about wanting to replace Mick in the early eighties.

Tit for tat?

I'm pretty sure that it's in writing somewhere that Keith cannot legally call his band "The Rolling Stones" unless Mick is in it. And I think Mick would run into the same problem if he wanted to call a band HE was in "The Rolling Stones" if Keith wasn't in it.

Kinda like trying call any band The Kinks that doesn't involve Ray and Dave Davies.

I thought that their contracts indicated that the Rolling Stones must include Jagger, Richards and Watts.

I don't doubt that this is true. BUT, at what point were those/that contract(s) put into place? 70's? 80's? 90's?

...98% of the article is a rehash..the PR machine for the book is starting to rumble...should make for an interesting fall read.

I think Pete would have been happy to replace Roger with Mick.

Mick is one of the main shareholders, so is Keith and so are Ronnie and Charlie. Ronnie only since somewhere last decade I believe. I guess they mourne that decision now. Artistically Jagger could tour with any artist under the Stones banner, like he did in the mid 80's with his solo tour in japan and Australia. It was like a Stones set/tour as all the people want to see, especially in the US was/is Mick. A few die hards fo Keith, Ronnie and Charlie. But all people think of is when they hear the Stones is MICK JAGGER!

So Keith can replace Mick by ANYONE,in HIS band! But no one cares who's in keith's band. His Expensive Winos Tours and albums were great but not commercially! Steve Jordan was the crown jewel in that band!!!

No news there. I remember the rumours were all over the papers in 1986, after Mick denied to tour behind DW.

Keith couldnt have 'replaced' Mick, but there certainly was a bit of tabloid gossip around 1986-87 of a 'Rolling Stones Mk II' with the (at the time) inactive Daltrey as lead singer or else Bobby Womack.

Most likely utter nonsense but I do recall the story.

Keith knows sell book. :-)

Terence Trent d'Arby was also rumored because he did a charity gig for AIMS with Bill and Ronnie. It's all rubbish and you can bet Keith makes no such claim in his book.

a fight is always good to fall in love again.....I heard Aerosmith ply the best shows in decades after the band said the'll replace Tyler.

Remember how hard the 80's were........it was like one looooooong decade without the Stones. Solo albums made things worse, seeing a wrecked Keith and ronnie with Dylan on Live Aid nearly made me cry and realize that Jagger was the only Stone with a pulse left ;-)

Fortunately things to a nice turn and they returned!But to be honest I thought that would be the end of the Stones thenm!

Didn't Keith once say that his idea of torture was listening to Daltrey sing?

Bill Murray said he thought the Stones were split up when he announced Ronnie with Buddy Guy and Johnny Lang at the Clapton guitar fest on Saturday.

I was actually serious about the subject, the 80's were for the Stones at least a long hard road outta hell!

I watched the Live Aid DVD again the other day. That set with Ronnie/Bob/Keith seemed evern worse than the last time I watched the DVD..! Such a depressing scene, bewildering even.

Just thought this was a MitchFlorida thread....

The opening song could be "Substitute" with Daltrey swinging the mike
