What Beatles song, not necessarily your favourite, or biggest seller, best describes the sound of the band?

Not sure, but as I'm asking the question, I'm thinking it is possible this may be even more difficult than the Stones question.

arguably their greatest and it's got equal parts paul and john, but it hardly represents their overall body of work. in other words, "a day in the life" does not equate to "an archetype in the catalogue"

I like the concept of 3 distinct chapters, but I'd probably go with:

1.Hard Days Night
2.Tomorrow Never Knows
3.Let It Be

I admit though that none of these truly define the Beatles, nor do they define the "3 chapters" they represent.
What they do represent is the Beatles' diversity and innovation over a short 7 year period.
