Video Of The Stones Recording A Bigger Bang
Posted by: skipstone ()

I vaguely remember seeing footage of the Stones working on what became Oh No Not You Again before the album came out. It's not on the DVD either. I think it showed Mick jumping up and down near Charlie at the end of the song, or stepping up to the drum riser for the end, which made me feel, at that time, that we were in for a treat of something along the line of When The Whip Comes Down.

Any ideas?

Well I don't remember seeing that but I did see video of a press conference and he played that song on a boom box or something and was dancing a little and saying "pretty good eh?

That was the press conference rehearsal, not the ABB recording session.

Great. Good to watch it again.
Scary to realize it was five years ago. Five years! I mean, that is about the same time span
as between the release of Let it Bleed and It's only Rock 'n Roll.

No, not the DVD that came with the special edition. That's just it - it was shown before the LP came out. When I saw the special edition DVD I thought, cool, they should have that footage in it. Nope.

Never heard of Charlie doing anything on any solo Mick stuff.
(that was a serious question, right?)

No, that was partially a joke. It was clearly not in BEING MICK because it wasn't. It had strictly to do with A Bigger Bang and it's not what is on the DVDs. It was part of the big push of hype. The thing of it was is it was really good. It wasn't that fluffed up crap that's on the DVD.

Had never seen the rehearsal footage or studio footage before. Thank you for this. Thing of it is, I think the songs sound remarkably better than the pumped-up noise that my aging ears rejected five years ago. Just turning the stereo down doesn't help, it's the way the thing sounds at any volume, it's recorded louder than it should be (or maybe mastered louder is what I mean to say). That album and tour, to me, sound like they were going for a White Stripes sound. I'd prefer that not be the case. I'd love to have a version of the album that sounds more like the two links in this thread.

I remember vaguely that I saw something about ABB on youtube. It was part of a series that was shown on television, it was called something like "Great moments in Rock history". They showed how Mick recorded "Laugh, I nearly died" in France, and they talked about this album. Maybe it is that what you mean?
