no rocks off is in open g. the first guitar part... only 3 strings are detuned.... the 6th 5th and 1st.. you can play the intro part in standard because the riff is using the strings not detuned.. you have to listen to the bass notes and the heavier riff that comes in after the opening to hear it...

To my ears, and playing (20 years), Rocks off is in standard.

I think Keith played Stray Cat Blues in G during Licks, though I didn't really like that way of playing it compared to the original.

The guitars on Child of the Moon are tuned to open D.

You guys are missing out the fact that Brian was using open G along with open A and E pretty much right from the start of the band.

Plundered My Soul is indeed in Open G (Keith´s guitar).

I have to agree with you Audun on the Rocks Off intro riff. If I remember correctly on live licks it sounds as though it's in standard tuning.

This guy's got it. Not perfect of course, but... Standard tuning anyway.

Right notes, but he should be playing the B5 Chord at the 7th fret, 6th string, no need to play it way down at the second fret when you're playing the opening E chord at the 9th fret. The open E note played on the 6th string is the key to this being standard tuning. I think this is what Keith plays studio and definitely live:

E-----------------------------------
B---9--9--10--9---------------------
G---9--9--9---9---------------------
D---9--9--11--9---------------------
A-----------------9--9--9--9--------
E-----------------6--6--6--7—7/11-0-

Try Open G for Rocks Off

----------------------------------------------------------
------9---9---10---9--------------------------------------
------9---9----9---9--------------------------------------
------9---9---11---9--------4---4---4---4-----------------
-----------------------------3---3---3---4-------x---------
-------------------------------------------------------0--

It's a modified open G
6th string remains stays an E instead of dropping to D

Then the verse part goes.........

"I hear you talking when I'm on the street"

----------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------
-------2------2------2---------3/4------4---4---4\--
-1-----2------2------2---------3/4------4---4---4\--
-1-----2------2------2---------3/4------4---4---4\--
---(0)--------------------0------------------------0-

"Well my heavy throbbers itchin' just to lay a solid rhythm down"

The reason for playing it down at the second fret has to do with the sound, actually.

Correct, and I think that Rooster is the first Open G single.

Don't know if these have been mentioned:

I don't know why

Casino Boogie
Ventilator Blues
Stop Breaking Down
Some Girls
Tops
Black Limo
Back of My Hand
She Saw Me coming

One of the newer songs with fine (double) open G-playing from Keith, Baby Break It Down also deserves a mention here.

It's not a fourth, it's whatever that is called, the third one.

E----------------
B---9--9--10--9--
G---9--9--9---9--
D---9--9--9 --9--
A---7--7--7---7--
E----------------

After having listened to Casino Boogie and playing along I came to the conclusion that it is not in open G.

Stop Breaking Down is just standard tuning in A.
Pretty sure Some Girls is too.
Tops - dunno. Always sounds standard to me.
Black Limo - Sounds standard to me.
Back Of My Hand - Haven't listened to it in years so I don't know.
She Saw Me coming - standard from what I can tell, especially since it starts in F.

Casino Boogie is 100% open G with capo at the 2nd fret.
Stop Breaking Down, both Jagger and Taylor are in open G. Jagger probably with a capo and high E string tuned to E (and not D).
Tops - Keith is in open G. Taylor standard.
Limo - again, Keith open G, Ronnie standard.
Hand - Jagger I don't know, Keith sounds to me open G.
Coming - It sounds open G to me. Plus there is a millisecond of Keith playing it on SAL, and I can remember seeing his open G tele with a capo somewhere half neck. Could be V fret if it starts in F.

Here you are way off on pretty much every number, Skip.

I'm not completely sure about CB, but SBD is Jagger on open G with capo on 2nd fret. Tops is classic Keith open G-voicing (like the "new" PMS). Black Limo is open G on the album, standard live 81/82 and open G again in the 90s. Keith's guitar on BOMH is definitely open G, so is SSMC.

I think WAY is in open G, liddas. It's most prominent on the minor chords in the choruses. But I might be wrong, of course (as I have been before smiling smiley )

You Can't Always Get (this one is debatable but it always works for me, capo at the 4th fret)

- 5th fret, so it's in C

You guys are missing out the fact that Brian was using open G along with open A and E pretty much right from the start of the band.

- Keith got into open E and open D around '68 and Beggars. "Prodigal Son" and "Child of the Moon" for example. You can tune it slacker in open D and capo on 2nd fret to notch it up to open E, and wont bust as many strings that way

Rocks Off - standard tuning; second bit of intro riff is better played on 6th and 7th fret rather than b-flat on first fret moving to B at second fret; not so much stretching or jumping around required

E-----------------------------------
B---9--9--10--9---------------------
G---9--9--9---9---------------------
D---9--9--11--9---------------------
A-----------------9--9--9--9--------
E-----------------6--6--6--7—7/11-0-

The dude who posted this has it correct.
