Naked Idea......

As anybody worth their 2 cents on this board knows

The Beatles and the "Let It Be" production by Phil Spector was not well recieved by the band at all.

Which lead to "Let It Be.....Naked" couple yrs. ago

A whole re-production of the original album. Removing strings and choirs...etc..... you get the idea.....

My question is this.

What if you could do this to 1 Stones album?

Which one would benifit the most by this kind of treatment?

A whole REMIXING.....and production?

How about "Dirty Work" or Steel Wheels" ????

Both were glossy slick overworked studio efforts..

But wouldn't it be GREAT to hear them remixed in a more raw guitar prominent mix? Say drop the horns on "Sad, Sad, Sad" And drop ALOT on Keith's Can't Be Seen" Move the guitars up on "Dirty Work" , which I think is the strongest song on the album...

Just an interesting idea.

"Well my heavy throbbers itchin' just to lay a solid rhythm down"

Metamorphosis version of Downtown Susie - get rid of most of the backup vocals.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

Voodoo Lounge gets my vote.

My complaint here is not the production of the music as much as it is the vocals. Mick is put "high and dry" in the mix which makes him sound like he's singing karaoke against a music backing track. Of course this isn't unique to this album. It seems to be the norm in current production techniques, but I digress.

Imagine:

Love Is Strong - mixed like Gimme Shelter
Mean Disposition - mixed like Rip This Joint
Sweethearts Together - mixed like You Better Move On
I Go Wild - mixed like Brown Sugar

And on and on...

remix exile (not replace the original version) would be interesting hearing how it would sound. mick has claimed that the wrong mixes were used for the album.

Have Bob Clearmountain re-mix Goat's Head Soup.

I thought mix said the Exile mixes weren't very good, not that they were the wrong mixes...when they first went to mix Exile for CD they couldn't understand why the master tape sounded so bad, then they discovered a different tape with the eq notations on the box, which was the right one.

The mixing of Exile was difficult. Jagger has never liked the final mix. In an interview with Melody Maker, Jagger said, "I think they used the wrong mix for that one. I know they did."

I don't know what you'd strip off of Exile. It's not like there's an orchestra or choir on it.

I think the murky mix of Exile is one of its charms. I was still discovering guitar parts 20 years later. Not sure if a "cleaner" mix would improve it!

oh i don't think a new mix would improve it, just think it would be interesting to hear

I'm not a mix expert but I always find the sound of some songs of Out Of Our Heads (UK) bad

It always seemed that the Stones had much more freedom in the studio than the Beatles. I don't think that Let it Be was not well received by the band but Paul.

In retrospect the Stones might do many things differently but do they had have a Let it Be to redo? Maybe not.

I'll never argue that Dirty Work is one of their better albums, but I find it an interesting listen for it's overtly '80's-ness. Winning Ugly and Back To Zero are catchy tunes IMO.

It'll be intressting with Undercover, just slide-guitars, drums, bass and vocal...

Erase Angie, Rock And A Hard Place, Streets Of Love, etc...make them so naked we can't hear them.

Why do so many have such strong negative feelings towards Angie?
