OT: ANY THOUGHTS on JACKIE WILSON

Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson were just two of many performers who were inspired by - and often emulated by Jackie Wilson, the great soul singer of the 60's with the fabulous stage presence. Check Jackie out on YouTube

Can you think of some other obvious Wilson admirers?

Lonely Teardrops ....on first hearing literally stopped me in my tracks ...Stunning Stuff

In 75 Jackie collapsed on stage while performing Lonely Teardrops..
remained in a coma for a number of years ....At the time he was singing the line My heart is crying.....crying

Jackie was an enourmous influence on Elvis ...
Check out Million $ Quartet and what Presely says about seeing Jackie perform.....

MASSIVE talent.......

I always felt Wilson's immortality was compromised by too many so-so 'pop' records that do no justice to his talent...

One of my favorites. "Stop Doggin Me Around" is unbelievable. I also love "To Be Loved."

I love that Wilson saw himself as a link in the chain of great singing showmen that reached back to at least the 1920's. He even put out a record in tribute to one of his major influences, Al Jolson. That chain went on to include Presley, as well as Mick himself.

I always tought that Jackie was emulating Elvis. I read a story once that described a scene where JAckie was performing and Elvis' people told him that he must go see this performer who was doing Elvis better than Elvis and it turned out to be Jackie.

I also thought that Elvis recorded 3-4 years before Jackie recorded the first of his hits.

Jackie Wilson said
It was "Reet-Petite"
Kinda love you got
Knock me off my feet
Let it all hang out
Oh, let it all hang out.
And you know
I'm so wired-up
Don't need no coffee in my cup
Let it all hang out
Let it all hang out.
Watch this:
Ding-a-ling-a-ling
Ding-a-ling-a-ling-ding
Ding-a-ling-a-ling
Ding-a-ling-a-ling-ding
Do-da-do-da
I'm in heaven, I'm in heaven
I'm in heaven, when you smile
When you smile, when you smile
When you smile.
And when you walk
Across the room
You make my heart go
Boom-boom-boom
Let it all hang out
Baby, let it all hang out
And ev'ry time
You look that way
Honey chile, you make my day
Let it all hang out
Like the man said: let it all hang out.
Watch this:
Ding-a-ling-a-ling ... etc.

"Higher and Higher" is one of my favorite feel good songs. Always gives me a lift (no pun intended).

Lonely Teardrops always got me, but I think he kind of went pop for whatever reasons over time.

Not hardly. I don't think you can put Mick in the same league as those guys.

boogie1969-

It's hard to imagine that on a Stones site I found somebody who thinks that Mick Jagger doesn't measure up to Al Jolson as a performer. You might be right, and I might even reluctantly agree with you. However, I am surprised and would like to hear your thinking.
