OT: Pete Townshend moving house?
Posted by: Stargroves ()

Great excitement in the village this morning, it is said that Pete Townshend has bought Ashdown House.

There are numerous rights of way across the land and the staircase and roof have to be opened for National Trust visitors on Sundays in the summer, so I am sceptical, but if it's true I might just ride in that direction a few times this summer across the bridleways...

Did he ever finish that book on paedophilia that he was busy researching?

Maybe he's bought the house from his publishing advance

Police caution, no more than that.

Tricky to lock up all the little people in this area, there are few people here as tall as me (and I'm not that tall) as most are employed in the racing industry.winking smiley
Mick wouldn't need his peculiar footwear here to be taller than everyone else

I agree.

Do these inbreds on here really believe that Townshend is a pedophile? He has kids of his own, I'm guessing grandkids, and like any adult with his own family, friends with families, etc., he's been around kids most of his adult life. There has never been even a rumor of any kind about him and any kids.

Regardless of whatever idiotic mistake he made on the internet a few years ago, if there was anything really going on, something or someone would have come out by now.

It didnt. He abandoned it. In book form, anyway, although he has published some writings about it, as seen above.

Hardly the first time Townshend has started a project and not seen it through in the form it was originally envisioned.

And actually he was writing his autobiography and a section about how he was abused as a child.

Hope his autobio is easier to follow than Tommy, Lifehouse and Ironman. Don't think he'd ever sell the Wick either.

Re the child pornography, not that I really know of course but I think he was guilty of hubris and stupidity at best, not surfing child pornography sites for the purpose of enjoyment.

I know he divorced his wife Karen not too long ago, and he gave her a lot of money, which I think she deserves (as did Pete, I guess). HEre's an article about Karen Townshend selling their house;

[property.timesonline.co.uk]

And an article by Pete's daughter Emma about growing up with the Who guitarist.
Of course she leaves out the bad stuff, but an interesting read anyway:

Actually that is quite a touching article from Pete's daughter! I am very impressed. And the way she ends it is really the point of the story isn't it. Loving these bands, like The Stones, you hear that song, and you are 17 again, Reliving the passion and inensity of life, and all the while you are listening to old men who are transporting you back. With them. For the moment. That is rock n' roll.

yeah it was all a honest mistake that pete went online to look at child porn for the purpose of doing research for a book he was working on.yeah right gimmie a break .this guy broke up the who after that 82 tour because he had a hard time handling his feelings of homosexuality .no big deal nothing wrong with that more power to ya .dont start messing around with kids and child porn .to all those people that say this was no big deal just the wrong click of the mouse .remember pedophilia is AGAINST THE LAWS in civilised countries like in the good ole red white and blue united states of america.if you condone this type of abhorent behavior than i really feel sorry for you .the long arm of the law will catch up with you in good time .in my town that i live in a highly decoreted policeman was just sent to federal prison for downloading child porn ,he got two years in a federal pen.two years life ruined family destroyed and so on .we have a name for that PERVERT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get real. How could he write a chapter in his book about his 'own' childhood problems without looking up on sick images first ?

He's innocent i tells thee!

He must be, he has kids of his own

Sweet jesus has this been gone over a zillion times or what!!?

Mr JS is trying his best to wind up people and gain attention

There was never a conviction and PT was registered and merely a technicality.

But then anyone with half a brain knows that....

He didn't need to view the images in the name of 'research' - surely?

I like the music he's produced very much, but the man makes my skin crawl.

Oh for goodness sake. No one is condoning child pornography on here. Your policeman had evidence against him and was convicted. PT was not charged, there was not enough evidence even to try for a conviction, so somewhat different circumstances.

As far as I know, no one on here knows the man or has first hand evidence of the evidence in the case against him. Not a great basis to judge anyone by.

Wow Andyjs I remember you singing a very different tune way back when. When was it? Say 8 years ago?

And Greek baby although I agree with your aggressive attitude and 'f*ck the c*nts that do this' way of thinking I don't think we know the full story so therefore cannot really 'convict' Townshend's motives for doing what he did. His intent will truly ever really be known to him. I choose to believe - yes and somewhat niavely perhaps - that his is not a peadophile. If I thought he was I believe I would ditch my entire (and very impressive smoking smiley) Who cd and dvd collection. Plus I think your take on Pete being a poof might be way off base. Not that I give a hoot'n toot.

PS - is their any update to whether or not he's buying Stargroves? Abd didn't one of the Beatles' or Stones' once own this property?

Squando as far as I know, house only owned by the rich and anonymous, rather than the rich and famous, so farsmiling smiley. It's owned by National Trust and it's the leasehold that's for sale, the owner has to allow access to the staircase, filled with portraits of the Cravens who used to own it and then onto the roof, which has amazing views. It's this condition that makes me doubt the rumours. If you were Pete Townshend, would you want people walking right up to the house on Sunday afternoons in the summer, gathering in a group and then going inside? Even if there's no access from the staircase to the rest of the house...

All the rumours say that it's definitely PT moving in. So probably a 1 in 100 chance that this will happen and it's true, the rumour mill is still in good working order around heresmiling smiley

Today it was confirmed that Pete Townshend has bought Ashdown House. The volunteers who do the Natinal Trust tours are worried they will be inundated this summer smiling smiley

Pete Townshend went through whatever shit he had to go through with the law - legally the matter is over.

But, just to clarify things, just because someone has kids/grand kids, does not preclude them from being paedophiles.

Also it should be noted that many of the Rock bands of the 60's and 70's abused girls younger than 16 and therefore I think you will find that technically there are a good few paedophiles in all our record collections.

Didn't good old Bill Wyman finally get exposed by Mandy as having slept with her when she was under 16?

DOn't get too hung up on Trousers Towshend FFS!

I always felt that Pete was unjustly persecuted. Just because he was looking at stuff on line, in the privacy of his own home, doesn't mean anything other than he was viewing porn. SO WHAT? Really, what else was he found guilty of..if you can even use the word GUILTY! I'd love to read the court papers on that one!

Re: OT: Pete Townshend moving house?

I think Pete's credit card details were tracked to a porn site which was a child porn site - therefore he was undertaking illegal activities, and by paying to view he was directly financially supporting a disgusting trade i.e. child porn. I don't think that just because he was doing it in the privacy of his own room makes any difference...the issue is, was he doing it to 'research' for a book he was writing on which covered the topic of child porn?

Personally, if i was writing a book on child porn, before i even considered paying to access a child porn web site, I would speak with solicitors/police to let them know why and when and iff they would allow it....hmmmm, makes you wonder don't it?
