The best Stones song (of the late era)

Laugh, I nearly die.

I think this song stands up with some of their best from the 70's era.

I like the intent of it, but with some of those lines ("...an actor, lookin' for a role") I just stay with it.

I thought "Out Of Control" was a knockout.

I go with those first two but would add 'Baby Break It Down'.

no one's gonna say it's "She Saw Me Coming" so I'll do.

More good ones than some people might remember. "Love Is Strong" to me is a Stones classic. "You Got Me Rocking" is at least up there with "Crazy Mama" or "It's Only Rock n Roll" I think. Keith has produced a lot of classic tracks on his own - "Thru and Thru" is a masterpiece, as is 'The Worst', and I love his two songs from ABB. And Bridges of course had the great 1-2 punch of "Saint of Me" and "Out of Control". I think there's more than enough solid latter-period tracks you could make a very convincing 94-05 greatest hits compilation. Maybe it ain't all "Paint It Black" or "Gimme Shelter", but come on - let's see any of us try to write songs that good to begin with and then still write equally good songs 40 years later!

RS, if I had to select one song from VL, it'd be Moon Is Up. Or maybe Mean Disposition.

IMO Bridges to Babylon is very strong. Saint of Me and Out of Control rank with the best stuff. But even the second tier material from that album is brilliant. Reason I prefer B2B over VL is because VL is pulled down by some lousy material.
I think ABB is way better than I ever think it is. Especially that ending bunch of Dangerous Beauty, Driving Too Fast and Look at what the Cat Dragged in.

A Bigger bang would have been a fantastic album
if it had only 10 tracks :

Rough Justice
It won't take long
Streets of love
Back of my hand
She saw me coming
Oh no, not you again
Laugh, I nearly die
Dangerous Beauty
Look what the cat dragged in
Driving to fast

Can't complain for getting the extra tracks, but I think
this contributted to weakening A Bigger Bang.

thats a problem anyway. almost all the albums (of different artists) are way to long. (another reason to hate cd's)
but any album with "streets of love" on cant be better then average, because that track just pulls down everything...

Love is strong, Saint of me, Out of Control, Rough Justice, are great Stones songs but are more expected. Still blows my mind how they keep coming up with "great Stones Songs".

Continental Drift is truly a great song. It goes to unexpected places and it
shows the full creative force of the Stones. A great maroquee sound
in parts, etc...but this is also the reason I like so much "Laugh,
I nearly die. It's the Stones being creative.

Agreed. I think that both Bigger Bang and Voodoo suffered from being top-heavy. Each album could have been great instead of good if some of the filler had been shaved off. If they'd both been about 10 or 11 tracks long they probably would have been stronger overall.

Saint Of Me
Out Of Tears
You Got Me Rocking
Moon Is Up
Thief In The Night
Gunface
Out Of Control
It Won't Take Long
Streets Of Love
Laugh I Nearly Died
Rough Justice
Almost Hear You Sigh
Slipping Away
Mixed Emotions

That would just about be my 1 overlong compilation not in any particular order.

Oh No Not You Again

Fv cking up my life
it was bad the first time
I cant stand it twice

This song is so fv cking funny, I just love it and I saw the virgin performance at the 2005 Press Conference in NYC at Julliard. Only the Stones would roll out this song with hundreds of press and TV, live news and radio ~ you should of seen the TV and radio execs scrambling around when MICK dropped the F bomb ~ several times ~ it was hysterical! MICK, KEEF & Ronnie were laughing watching this while playing the song. Every time I hear it I just have to smile!

the moon is yellow
and I'm like jello
staring down your tits

Oh no, not you again
Fv cking up my life
It was bad first time around
I better take my own advice

Oh no, oh no, oh nooooo!

Out Of Control. It's the Midnight Rambler of the later years. There are MANY others, but this one is amazing to say the least. The Don Was Live version is KILLER!
