Keith Comment on Letterman?

Did anybody watch David Letterman last night? I missed most of the monologue, but when David introduced Paul Shaffer, Paul said, if I heard him right, "Speaking of Keith Richards, 'It's good to be here'." Then, coming back from break they were playing... Ok. My brain is fried....I can't remember for the life of me what they were playing. It was only 12 freaking hours ago. I wanna say, it was Get Off of My Cloud, but I can't be sure. Not because I don't know the song, I just can't remember. WTF!

Anyhow, Keith hasn't been in the news (at least that I've seen) recently, so I don't know what would have prompted a Keith comment from Dave during his monologue. Did I miss something? Did Paul just say that out of the blue?

Was anybody watching?

Keith hates Letterman. There's a bit of 'history' there, apparently.

>> Keith hates Letterman. <<

and Paul Shaffer likes Keith just fine, and he might indeed have said that just out of the blue.
it would probably be more enlightening to hear from someone else who actually saw the show, though :E

I've heard before that Keith doesn't like Letterman. What's the history. Does it go back further than his head injury?

Decades. "Chick issues", I'm told...

It all started when Dave started over-doing it with the necktie bit
and goofy faces........when he switched networks...got desperate to
beat Leno in the ratings and became a bad caricature of himself.
His best shows were first 5-10 years and his morning show.

Oh wait...that's why I no longer like Letterman.

If Dave was joking about Keith head injury......sounds like a legit
reason for Keith to dislike him IMO.

you can be married and still not like the way someone is treating a chick -
or anyway Keith can.

Letterman gets paid to whine. He has no real talent to speak of, and he only stays in New York to be near Donald Trumps barber. He has major hair obsessions.

I didn't see it but when Dave throws it to Paul for his intro, Paul likes to say random things out of the blue as they audience claps for him...this being one of them.

But from the sound of it...Paul seems to be making reference to Keith's "It's good to be here...good to be anywhere."

Yeah, I got that.

Maybe I misheard him say "Speaking of Keith Richards", which caused me to think Dave had mentioned him previously.

Steve Jordan was the drummer on the David Laterman show. Then Jordan quit to join the Expensive Winos. I think that is one of the possible reason why Laterman and Richards are not"friends". Then all the stupid jokes that David says targeting the Stones doesn't help warming up the relationship. And last, Richards doesn't have that much respect for David's job; seating on his ass telling jokes written by others.

maybe...but i personally doubt it.
Letterman doesn't care who the drummer is...
If anybody cared it would be Paul Schaffer.....and he doesn't have a problem w/Keith.

it's probably a simple answer....like Letterman making old jokes about
the Stones....or the whole coconut tree incident etc.... or...???
heck...Springsteen's drummer moonlights for Conan O'Brien so...
if Steve Jordan really wanted to stay..it could've been worked out.

I believe Keith said that the temperature in Laterman's old studio was cold. I took that as a hit at David's personality.Keith likes when things are warm and laid back.

They both live in Connecticut. There's probably some long-standing grudge about a fence, or a wind farm, or the last danish at the bakery . . .

The temp on Letterman's set is kept at a constant 49 degrees Farenheit. It's colder than hell and tough on a guitar.

Damn straight it's cold. We flew up the day before and somebody from the show advised us when we got there about the temp and recommended we wear a sweatshirt or a hoodie to the studio the next day. I thought "NOW you tell me? I could've brought one from home if I'd've known! I guess I gotta buy one now from the gift shop?"

Dave has said on the air that he keeps the studio at 55.

As for this having anything to do with a rumored Keith/Dave thing...doubt it.

I'm not sure there's any substantial reason why Keith would dislike Dave except that he probably didn't appreciate his personality especially during the old days when Dave was far more cold, sarcastic and @#$%&=ish. Keith prolly doesn't jive with people like that.

Dave, today, though, isn't the same way and if Keith would ever go on the show...Dave would most likely put on the biggest kiss-up job (a job he's quite used to doing with several guests already). I dunno if the two ever really interacted but to me, I always saw it as Keith just not liking Dave simply because he was a smart ass. Nothing more.
