Nils Lofgren as a Replacement for Mick Taylor

As a completist, I always endeavor to buy all the solo albums too by my favorite bands, and for some reason, Bruce and the E Street were long since overlooked, so I picked up my first few, including Grin's Greatest Hits - a fantastic album btw. Really dig these guys, who sound very much like Neil Young in the early days (perhaps because Nils played with Neil), but in any event I digress......

The liner notes mentioned that Nils was considered as a replacement for Taylor after he'd quit. I'd never heard this before. Does anyone here have anymore info on this?? Boy how things could have been vastly different under that scenario!!

he wasnt seriously 'considered' and I dont think he even got an audition.

Would have been quite a resumé to have been the lead guitarist at various points in your career with the three greatest bands on the planet, though!

I agree things could have been vastly different under that scenario. He is a great player, but I don't think Nils would have stayed for a long time...

If I remember correctly Keith said something along the lines like; "wow, this kid surely
wants to be me" after Nils did audition. I guess I read it in the Keith biography, but it's
been a long time since I read it, so I can't be more precize.

He never auditioned. He asked for an audition, but this was denied.

Legend has it he flew in to the airport phoned the studio and was told to go away and caught the next flight home.

Why not calling in the first place?

Maybe he wasn't invited and hoped to bluff his way in... Like "Oh, you see, I'm in town, I heard you are looking for a guitar player, maybe we should just give it a try..."

:-)

More seriously, it must have been very tough for him.

I loved much of his work with Grin and his first solo albums!
On the cover of the first you could see he was a Keith man.

The Stones never considered or even invited him.It was his wish and like many others he tried to make contact.

Musically it would have been quite interesting to hear him with the Stones (in those days)!

funny though that hes always backstage with them at Washington area Stones shows, and with backstage I dont just mean the VIP room which is for fanclub presidents and high profile fans.

angry smiley

On behalf of my fellow short-arses worldwide, I would like to remind you that the greatest rock n roll band of all time was formed by someone who was 'vertically disabled'......
