OK so for those of us in America who managed to get a copy of this 45 today, what is the number on yours? Who here as the lowest number? I managed to get the last (possibly only?) copy at my local record store...number 2050....

Anyone under 1000 or in the 1000's????

Sorry to hear that UrbanSteel. I was going to buy some extras for people here but alas there was but one left by the time I got my shot at the 45 rack.

The store I was in refused to sell anybody more than one copy of any of the releases that were put out today . I went home , changed clothes and wore a different pair of glasses ( my clever disguise ) but there were none left exactly 12 minutes after I had been in the store .

I sneaked out of work today, drove half an hour to Manchester, got there 45 minutes before the store opened and there must have been 150 people trailing down the street. I was gutted and was gonna walk back but saw an old school mate at the front of the queue, he'd been there since 6am. I asked him how he was and what disc he wanted, he only wanted the Blur disc so he got me the Stones disc! Stones karma all the way!

One participating record store in London told me they'd have 50 copies. But my FNAC order has been dispatched - yeah!!

Was that Sister Ray on Berwick Street by any chance Beast? Due to prior commitments I couldn't get down there this morning but dropped by this afternoon on the off-chance. Needless to say, it was a wasted journey, they had people queueing outside the door this morning (not just for the Stones vinyl admittedly) and so their 50 copies went pretty quickly.
It was still fun to feel the vibe in Soho that Record Store Day created with one outlet having an 'All-Dayer' with assorted DJs...... As one t-shirt I saw said : "Long Live Vinyl"!

No - Rough Trade East, which I later discovered by chance was a prime organizer of the whole thing. I had been planning to go there for 9 a.m. then found out last night that my fnac order (which had perturbingly gone from "in process" to "dispatch on 18th" and back to "in process" again since the time of ordering) was apparently dispatched yesterday. Let's just say it had better damn well turn up on my doorstep next week! It still seems to be possible to order it via their site. Not sure where the info about there being only 1,000 copies came from but it doesn't seem correct.

4 copies (#'s in the 1400's) at $6.99 each. Rhino Records, near L.A. - they had a huge stack...at least 40, and nobody but me was looking at them.

I think it's utterly fantastic that they put the credits on the single. There can be no doubt who played on it. Great to see those names: Taylor, Wyman, Keys, Hopkins, Jimmy Miller, etc.

Somebody who got lucky in the record store is now offering one on Amazon UK for £89.99!

Until the CD arrives, I've settled for their download at one-hundredth of the price: 89p.

Blur's New Vinyl Track Lands On EBay
Saturday, April 17 02:49 pm
© Sky News 2010
Hours after music fans collected their limited edition release of Blur's first new material in seven years, copies of the single-sided record were up for auction on eBay. Skip related content

The band chose to make the vinyl available only through independent record shops, saying they were an "important part of our musical culture".

Only 1,000 copies of Fool's Day, recorded earlier this month, were offered for purchase.

It is the first track to feature all four Blur members since Battery In Your Leg from the album Think Tank, released in 2003.

But by mid-Saturday Sky News Online found several available to buy on eBay - with one already priced over £100.

The single - in a minimal blue sleeve - was issued on seven-inch vinyl by label Parlophone to mark Record Store Day.

The day aims to highlight the continuing contribution of Britain's 300-odd remaining indie shops to music.

Some stores stocked just two copies and came up with ingenious methods of distributing them fairly among fans to cope with the expected demand.

Spencer Hickman, of London's Rough Trade East store, said: "We have had people contact us from all over the world.

"Some people are even threatening to fly in for the day just in the hope of picking up a copy of the Blur single."

Pure Groove records in London's Smithfield held a Blur Quiz, while Blackcat Records in Taunton staged a raffle for the single.

The release was one of more than 100 exclusive items to be made available at indie stores participating in Record Store Day.

Others included 1,000 seven-inch vinyl copies of The Rolling Stones' Plundered My Soul, a previously unreleased track from their Exile On Main Street sessions.

Other indie stores organised live performances from bands, rock'n'roll face painting and parties.

Sir Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and writer Nick Hornby were among others who all supported the day.

I find it delightful that everyone is so excited about buying a 45 record. When was the last time anyone bought a 45 ? It harkens back to the day when everyone had to have the new Three Dog Night 45; "Joy to the World" ...... back when the world seemed young and fun, and 45s only cost 45cents. What a great life it has been (and is)..... Thanks Mick ..... and of course Keith and Ronnie and Charlie and Mick and Brian and Stu and et. al

Dang, Hairball, that's fantastic!! You're the winner thus far, lowest number-wise. Good for you!! I suppose the bigger markets - LA, NY, Chicago maybe? - got most of these singles.

I don't know from where the 1,000 copies originated, but I'm beginning to wonder if it was a typo, and perhaps there were 10,000 copies available??

I can't wait to see what # mine is. There isn't a record shop near me so I had phoned one out of state where a friend lives and they held it until they picked it up at the store. Can't wait to get it in the mail!
