Never understood why in the various live video etc from the Steel Wheels tour that when Keith does that little chug bit they always showed Bill. It's too bad, oh hell, I'll just say this and it says it all - @#$%& @#$%& (Matt Clifford).

Aren't these 'backup singers' in 2000 Light Years From Home not just the Stones themselves, with their voices recorded at a lower speed? Like they did with the ohlala's in She's a Rainbow?

2000 MAN

Recorded: August 20 - 30 and September 1 -7, 1967. Released on Their Satanic Majesties Request in December of 1967.
Vocals: Mick Jagger Bass: Bill Wyman Guitars: Keith Richards Drums: Charlie Watts Organ: Brian Jones

2000 MAN
(Jagger/Richards)

Well my name is a number
A piece of plastic film
And I'm growin' funny flowers
In my little window sill

Dont you know I'm a 2000 man
And my kids, they just don't understand me at all

Well my wife still respects me
I really misused her
I am having an affair
With a random computer

Don't you know I'm a 2000 man
And my kids, they just don't understand me at all

Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy, proud of your sun
Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy proud of your sun
Oh daddy, your brain's still flashin'
Like it did when you were young
Or do you come down crashin'
Seeing all the things you'd done
All was a big put on

Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy proud of your son
Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy proud of your son

Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy proud of your sun
Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy proud of your sun

And you know who's the 2000 man
And your kids they just won't understand you at all

First recorded on October 16, 1967, the song was not meant to be released. But after Brian Jones added the mellotron to it, it was added to and became perhaps the best song on Satanic Majesties.
Vocals: Mick Jagger Mellotron & Piano: Brian Jones Bass: Bill Wyman Guitar: Keith Richards Drums: Charlie Watts Percussion: Mick Jagger & Brian Jones

2000 LIGHT YEARS FROM HOME
(Jagger/Richards)

Sun turnin' 'round with graceful motion
We're setting off with soft explosion
Bound for a star with fiery oceans
It's so very lonely, you're a hundred light years from home

Freezing red deserts turn to dark
Energy here in every part
It's so very lonely, you're six hundred light years from home

It's so very lonely, you're a thousand light years from home
It's so very lonely, you're a thousand light years from home

Bell flight fourteen you now can land
See you on Aldebaran, safe on the green desert sand
It's so very lonely, you're two thousand light years from home
It's so very lonely, you're two thousand light years from home

eugh, keno's crappy credits!

The mellotron was not added to the 2000 LYFH after and Brian doesn't play on 2000 Man.

A great, great track, the mellotron makes it for me, it's sounds kind of 67' Pink Floyd (Astronomy Domine, Interstellar Overdrive, etc.)

Seeing them do 2000 Light Years From Home at Wembley in 1990 was a personal highlight for me. Shame they cut it short though.

What a load of bollocks. The mellotron is present on the very first takes of the song, and the line up of the released version is:

Drums: Charlie Watts
Bass: Bill Wyman
Electric guitars: Keith Richards
Lead vocal: Mick Jagger
Background vocals: Mick Jagger & Keith Richards
Piano: Nicky Hopkins
Mellotron: Brian Jones
Maracas: Mick Jagger
Claves: Eddie Kramer

This song is so much above the other stuff that the Stones have been putting out in recent years. It was not a huge "hit" but people keep coming back to it. I prefer this to their monster hit "Start Me Up" in terms that I still keep finding new things in 2000 Light Years . .

It was a single in Germany (b-side She's A Rainbow) and it was a (please, sit down, hold your breath) Number 2!!! Only the Bee Gees' Massachusetts fared better.

was an absolute urbanjungle highlight aswell! fantastic. great track.
somehow stands on its own, just like sympathy. both songs cant really be put into a typical "stones-classification", but at the same time they are very stonesy too...

I repeat that it was not a huge hit. Unless you consider being on the flip side of "She's A Rainbow" and not charting in the Top 24 a huge hit.

By that definition, "Child of the Moon" was a Rolling Stones mega-hit.

One of the highlights in the back catalog that is overlooked outside of the Stones circle. Absolutely fantastic I wish the rest of the album was this good!

I would love to see Jagger do a Las Vegas Lounge Act, a la Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin . . just to see him experiment with the format.
