OT: Zak Starkey = amazing drummer

Yeah, Ringo's boy - but what a player. Saw him live on one of the All-Starr band tours, just great.

Now watching his work with the Who - pure power. He's replaced kenny Aronoff as the drummer I want for my band.

He is great with The Who. And with Oasis (although I don't much like that band).

He was really something with Oasis
They are lesser without him.

Haven't heard him yet much with The Who but I imagine it sounds great.
I liked Simon Phillips with The Who.

Yeah, I agree he is solid, I was stunned at how he handled the Who songs when I saw them last fall. He really added to the show with his power.

Second greatest Zak ever! Hardly a boy though, he's over 40.

Yeah, he is good!

As a Rockdrummer I like him much more than Simon Philipps who is one of those technically great Superdrummers but lacking real Rock and Soul!

Btw. SP was on Jaggers 88 solo tour (which wasn't that bad!)

I have only seen vids of him with the Who, and was really impressed with his live performances. He really captures the Keith Moon feel with his playing (and I presume his being somewhat taught by KM helps a bit with that).

I was not all that psyched with the drum sound on the Endless Wire tracks... especially the toms, they sound too tonal, not gritty enough, but whatever.

I think all the Beatle offspring (the musical ones, Zak, Dhani, Sean/Julian, etc) should start a band, and call it Larvae.

Zak only played drums on one Endless Wire track (Black Widows Eyes), and I think the album suffered a lot for it. The tracks were played much better in concert.

Zak is an incredible drummer when he's with The Who (or The Healers, or The Lightening Seeds, for that matter), but he was never a good fit for Oasis.

Zak barely played on Endless Wire because he was tied up with Oasis touring commitments. He only played on Black Widow's Eyes. Peter Huntington does most of the drumming on that album.

He's the only appropriate drummer for the Who who isn't named Keith Moon.

That reminds me of a great quote from Moon. Once when Townshend was thinking of kicking him out of the band he said "But I'm the best Keith Moon-style drummer in the world!" Now that Keith is gone, Zak Starkey has the honor of holding that title.
